I am using PostNuke for my site, with phpBB2 inside. It is not bad, but it can be a b*&%$r to work with - and the PostNuke web site is no use at all for a nubie. Does anyone know of a good site that gives a simple, and quick, intro to configuring it and lets you get up to the heights of writing your own modules or blocks (or are they the same?)? I have tinkered with PHP and so don't mind getting my hands dirty in the code, but I just don't know where to start (even if I need to!). It may be that the info is on the PostNuke web site, but I can't find it - a pointer may be all I need
Yes, but it is not very good as a place to start! One of the most useful items on cretaing a custom module is the following: "While there are many blocks and modules available to expand your site, it is possible that you cannot find one that meets your needs. Both Blocks and Modules can be custom developed for you. Occasionally, you can find a developer that will create a module for you at no charge, but this is rare. As they say, time is money, and custom development takes time and therefore usually costs money. Anyone who understands Postnuke can create new modules and blocks for it. If you do not wish to work with whomever set up your original site, you can contact new developers through the forums at Postnuke.com." I find that most of the documentation is true, but unhelpful! A bit like the following description of a mug: "They come in various sizes, but normally bigger than your fist and smaller than your head. Often they are made of china, but they could be metal, plastic or something else. Often they are white and in this case may have a logo or writing. Many other colours are used." All of that is true as a description of a mug, but it misses the most vital bits!
