Does anyone know of any anti-spambot mods for vB? One of my mods ran across a post in a Powerboard forum where they added two fields to the sign up process. The first it simple enough, it asks the new user to enter in a random 6 digit number. The second field asks them to enter in any string of numbers in the format of a telephone number in North America. The forum owners say that this has eliminated spam bots b/c they haven't figured out the new required fields. The problem I see is that it doesn't keep out the human spammers.
Yes CYb Mod, permissions based on user post count very easy to use. If you have a licensed vb, you can register at vbulletin.org with an email that you used at vbulletin.com. Just install the product and follow instructions. Really nice mod.
I second Imran's recommendation.. it's a great free modification and helps keep the spam away from the board.
I've started using a very handy plugin that blocks users from registering if their IP is listed in a DNS blacklist. By default it checks SpamHaus XBL, but you can configure it to use any DNSBL that you like: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=131852
I have been working on reducing spam on my forums for some time, and I seem to have found a method of virtually eliminating spam from vBulletin forums... I wrote a tutorial on explaining how to do this. [How To] Reduce spam on your forum Its been working for me and I have cut spam down to nearly -ZERO- on my forums.
