Any genuine clues on how to increase traffic -- file hosting sites

    I have a couple file hosting sites and I've tried the hundreds of ways of getting traffic and users.

    It works for a while and then it seems to slow down.

    Any genuine ideas or ideas that have worked for you in the past?

    Would like to hear from you all how you've done it.

    1. Added to freebie sites. It's on many of the larger freebie sites.
    2. Submitted premium-service to search engines
    3. Did quite a few link exchanges
    4. mouth-to mouth
    5. Links in sigs
    6. Meta tags
    7. Submitted to directories.

    Not working for me.

    Generate traffic using both online/offline efforts through Press Release Marketing:

    Month 1: Submit a press release announcing the launch of your service.

    Month 2: Submit press release announcing a free giveway when your service is used.

    Month 3: Provide a free teleseminar on data mining, webhosting, free online services. Submit a press release promoting the teleseminar. Announce the upcoming launch for your new Free Web Sources podcast at the teleseminar. Maintain a monthly teleseminar.

    Month 4: Start a podcast on free online services. Make your proxy sites the main sponsor. Invite other free service providers on your show. Submit show to itunes, associated content, etc. Submit press release announcing the launch of your podcast.

    Month 5: Start a free e-newsletter on free web resources. Make your poxy site the main sponsor. Submit a press release announcing the launch of the newsletter.

    Month 6: Upgrade your website design or function. Submit a press release announcing the upgrades and new benefits of using your free proxy service.

    I had over 1,000 uniques to my file host in the first 24 hours of its launch. I had to pay though. Before my launch I paid some webmasters to put links on their forums and websites saying "Click here to host a file to post" or "Click here to upload a file". It's the third day of my site and I'm now at over 5,000+ Hits :D

    In Short: NETWORK WITH OTHER WEBMASTERS - bribe them with money, services, hosting, whatever it takes.
