Thanks for the reply, just read it. It was late 2005 (a few months after I got my domain), cant be 100% sure and cant make sure its not "lost" in the crash, so to play it safe I will submit again. I don't know why you think it doesn't apply to me, or why you think I have submitted multiple times, maybe mixed me up with the OP?
DMOZ is human-edited directory. they take their own time to decide whether to add your site to the directory or not.
You really don't know? If so then it's not me that's mixed up. Once again I remind everyone to actually read the form that you acknowledge having read when you suggest a site. It would save everyone a lot of time.
Sorry, I forgot. Maybe around the year 2007 I see the guidelines that we may send more than one suggestions if there is no response in one or two months. I do not know exactly.
The guidelines have NEVER said anything like that or anything close to that; the gudielines have NEVER said anything about submitting again
The best way to get listed is if you become an editor and include your own site, its not the most white hat way of going about and doing things, but if you NEED to get listed its the only way. I know allot of people that have been waiting 1 or 2 years to get approved.
That wouldn't be a good reason to become an editor, but as long as the site meets the Directory's requirements for inclusion, there is absolutely nothing black hat about adding your own site. Editors are encouraged to add good sites to the Directory no matter where they find them, as long as they follow the Guidelines, and don't give them preferential treatment over other sites in that category. Just keep in mind that what can be added, can also be removed, including the editor.
Ok, thanks again Agent000. I will keep in my mind that I will never submit more than once an url to dmoz again.
WOW. Is getting into dmoz really that important? Not trying to be smart just wondering if one should worry so much about it. I mean, submit your site and move on. What kind of pr improvement can one expect after getting into dmoz?
No. Its just a good link to have; no more or no better than any other link. Unfortunatly there are a lot of people who hang out in SEO forums that have DCD (DMOZ compulsive disorder), believe all the SEO forum urban myths about DMOZ and think a listing is the only cure. Exactly The same amount you can get from any other comparable good link --- not much.
Not so rigorous, just follow this when suggesting a site, instead of using a list of key words or sales hype. And look at how the titles and descriptions for existing listing are written in the category. http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html Nothing catches the eye of an editor more quickly, than a properly written title and description, and it's appreciated. Like a bee to a colorful flower. Just answer two questions in the description, using only 2-3 sentences: 1.What is the site ( a manufacturer, distributor, club, real estate agent) 2. What can be found on the site ( photos, pricing, online store, blog, company profile, pink widgets) - what will the viewer find if they choose to visit the site Speak factually to the information seeker, no sales hype (it's not an ad), tell them what is on the site and let them decide whether that is the information they're looking for. Maybe they're only looking for blue widgets, but they might like to look at pink widgets anyway. (because we've told them there are pink widgets on one site, in the description) Because you know your site much better than the editor does, and because you know that there is something interesting (unique content) on your site that other sites might not have, I'm pretty sure that most editors would agree that we would prefer that you write the description, and we'll check it and do any fine tuning that's neccessary. If everybody did that, it would make our editing activities much more interesting, and our time spent much more efficient. 90% of the time, we have to completely delete the title and description you send to us and start over with a blank page. After you do 20-30 of those, you lose interest and go find some other task to do in the Directory.
