any free shopping carts that are comparable to virtuemart?

    I am looking for a shopping cart that is free like virtuemart for a non-CMS site, does anyone have any suggestions?

    http://www.magentocommerce.com/ is enterprise level stuff. You can do alot with it and the finished product is typically vastly more professional than anything else.

    http://www.prestashop.com/ is quite nice as well but not as robust or scaleable. Magento has loads of backend features that make it better but prestashop is really easy to use.

    Magento looks really impressive.. but it is REALLY hard core when it comes to setting it up.

    I have been looking to set up a site with magento for ages, but for someone who is fairly new to e-commerce i wouldn't advise it.

    I am just getting used to Virtuemart, and spending a lot of time sorting bugs in that.. but i know a lot of people benefit from it..

    it's just a learning curve, and visiting forums...
