I was always under the impression that an ebook was just a document sold to people to make money or learn something attached to an email????

That depends what you're looking for - software to make a .pdf e-book or software to make a .exe e-book.

If you want to make a .pdf e-book, you can use OpenOffice - you can convert your .doc or similar file to .pdf for free with their word processor. There are other services, but whether they'll work for you depends on whether or not you need to protect the file from editing, want links, etc.

I have been looking for this info as well. Does OpenOFfice allow for links in your E-book or does it just strictly convert it to PDF with no links?

Create a doc file using word and save it. Then visit http://www.doc2pdf.net/ and convert it into .pdf and download your pdf ebook. Then do what the hell you want.

There are definitely free tool. ;)

And if you don't feel like downloading the OpenOffice suite for free to do it, there's an even simpler option - no software needed.

Just write your e-book in Word or another word processor. Then go to https://online.primopdf.com/Default.aspx and upload the file. They'll email you the converted .pdf within a minute or so (just used it and had the file in seconds) - it even keeps links in tact.

Yep OpenOffice is free. I downloaded it the other day and it reminds me of Wordpad somewhat.

Yep. It's free. But if all you want to do is create a .pdf, and you already have another word processor, you're probably better off using the primopdf link I gave in another post here, rather than downloading a full software suite you don't need.

I use OpenOffice, too. No complaints here. Great software. I saved a bunch of money by not buying Microsoft Office on my last laptop. Used OpenOffice instead, was pleasantly surprised.
