Any expierence with google groups?

I wanted to find out if anyone has had any positive results or have even attempted to use google groups for promotions or backlinks.

A few years ago google started their own "groups" after buying the old usnet newsgroups. While in beta I grabbed up about 40 keyword groups for the nich markets I work with. I forgot about them for the past year and realized there has been some activity with the groups but no PR or search listings.

So my question is; has anyone tried using google groups as a promotional tool or backlinking, and if so what were your results.

 

I have used Google groups before but only for information and didn't find it very helpful. I would think there are a lot of other more useful sites available, like this one.

 

You will see alot of traffic however its not targeted traffic. Also give useful information and tips here. You dont want to get accused of spamming.

 

I believe google groups can be effective if done correctly. If you keep it active and eventually have that targeted traffic coming to the group and sticking around in these niches... then your possibilities are really endless.

Google groups are not as well established as Yahoo groups. There are a lot more Yahoo groups than Google groups.

 

I was just about to say that I like yahoo groups MUCH better than Google groups. There many more topics to explore and I find it easier to use Yahoo groups more so than Google groups.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I'll just keep the groups updated with some content and links for the time being. Maybe in another year or two when google starts to include the groups into something useful they might be worth something.

 

We can expect some traffic from Google group but cannot use it for link building purpose

 

Wish you the best on this one... As for Yahoo groups I tried them a few years back and found them full of spam and mostly not moderated. Does anyone know if this has changed?

 

Well, I know this one guy who uses it and says he gets pretty good traffic. But he treats it like any other forum so I would say you might as well stick around here for traffic...

 

I only use this to promote my website to gain backlink.So far the result is good

 

there are lot of people who use google groups to promote their sites. Its not based
on PR or anything but the click through that Iam talking about.
