    Hi All,

Just wondering has any directory owner gone the route of getting a load balanced clustered VPS server?

    Regards

    Tommy

surely to get into that kind off detail, you would need to have a very very high traffic site,

An by the time you got there, most would simply pay someone else to deal with the really techie stuff, dedicated hosting packages an such like

If I might ask, do you get so much traffic as to degrade the performance of a standard hosting package ?

Currently I am on a VPS , would'nt touch standard shared hosting, traffic is relatively high for a directory but am bringing in some new additions soon and I want the speed of the site not to degrade whether customer is based in Europe or the USA.

I am hosting enQuira in a dedicated server, it is a new directory but I am going to add many features to it that will need those resources. I currently need it for the roll, the blogs and the mp3 search engine.
I also have rakCha in another server but with all my other sites.

how many web pages per day, or perhaps how many Mbs served per day would you have to get to , before degrading the performance of a standard shared hostin package

I don't see the need for load balancing and/or db clustering unless you are a google/yahoo/business.com type of directory.
I guess it could also depend on the type of processor/db intensive stuff you also have going on in the background.
Im pretty certain that no of our directories see nearly anywhere close to the amount of traffic that these guys do.

    you are right anon!

I am hosting all of my directories on shared hosting except bigoole

From traffic point of view you do not need an vps!

But If you are doing some sort of indexing ,you definitely need an vps!

Probably a fail over solution makes sense, but a Load balanced Clustered VPS servers is overkill.
