Any digital artists out there?

It is great to see the designers in this forum.

Who is creating what they would consider to be digital fine art? Which programs are you using?

Groboto? Ultra Fractal? Bryce? ZBrush? Xenodream? Corel Painter?

Love to see what you are doing and what software you like to use. I love what these programs can do and and love to see what others are doing with them. It is a great source of inspiration. Please tell me more...

My uncle is a real world artist (canvas, paint, ink etc) and he's been wanting to get into computers for a while, so I'm giving him one of my old laptops with a cheap little Wacom tablet and Corel Painter. He'll either love it, or totally hate it.

It would be great if someone who's into "digital painting" could post some inspirational links.

Tell your uncle that the best way to get used to his wacom tablet is to just spend as much time as he can just doodling and scribling using the different tools in painter. It takes time to get used to drawing on screen. It is more intuitive thatn a mouse but still very different than regular paper.

For inspiration on computer art here are a few that I love:

    Ultra fractal work:

    Xenodream:
    xenodream.com/guestgal1.htm

    Painter:

I am also a real world artist and my move to computer art has been fantastic!

I'm a 3d artist (link to my work in my sig). My primary weapon of choice is FormZ, but I do tinker with Maya and 3ds Max sometimes.

    Wow great stuff!

I am not familiar with formz I googled it and it looks like a great package. I like the finished results it produces on both your site and the examples on their site. How is the learning curve?

Yeah, FormZ is a very capable 3d program. It's mainly targeted towards architects, but there are many product designers using it as well. I like it because it's very simple compared to 3ds Max and Maya (both are slightly overkill for the type of work I do).

I think they offer a free 30-day demo, so definitely check that out if you're interested. It's a fantastic piece of software!

3d studio max and maya are overkill for myself also- but I think I might check out FormZ

    Thanks for the heads up.

    Hi,

I'm a CG student - started my course 6 months ago. I mainly use 3DS Max, ZBrush, After FX and Photoshop.

Here's a WIP I'm working on at the moment, it's a render straight out of 3DS MAx with no post-production yet: http://www.wherecanibuy.biz/hirestesting.png

    Comments are welcome, Thanks!

Great render! No post production? Its fantastic- it likes like a photograph.

I use Photoshop and I just picked up ZBrush. Still learning it but it is a lot of fun. I don't use 3d studio max but you are doing quite well with it. Nice render!
