Hello, I am developing a large program for a local Spanish school. As a part of the program, I need to supply a list of English vocabulary. I found a website that has a list exactly like the one I want. Can a site have copyright over a list of words? How much do I have to change the list in order to make it mine? Thanks. Any other information that you can give me is appreciated.
I;m no lawyer, but I was always under the impression that a simple list couldn't be copyrighted. Seek real legal advice.
The list belongs to the writer of that list. Their list can have a copyright just as a dictionary can copyright their work.
Yes, but how different does the list have to be? I mean, there has to be a point where a list is different. A dictionary can't copyright the use of certain words. I'm just confused here and my question remains: how different do I have to make the list? Suppose there are 1,000 words. If I add another 300, change some definitions and mix it around does it count as mine? Thanks.
Hi there joaquin, If this is like duplicate content on a web, you need to change it around at least 35%. I suggest you just take the time to slightly rewrite it and add some new things and remove a few. Maybe go to other websites and get some other definitions that would benefit your visitors and add these also. Regards Catherine
i don't think so that a site have copyright over a list of words so u can do what ever u want in my opinion
