Hi I am running a trading company, I need a simple web solution to show my products and DO NOT need any online payment or cart. Any good suggestion ? Thanks
Joomla is tougher than Wordpress to learn and get used to. I started with Joomla and switched everything to Wordpress!
I was just the opposite. I learned Joomla, then Wordpress, then went totally with Joomla for all the extra power it has. If you just want to do as you say, and never advance your site, perhaps choose Wordpress. If you have a doubt about every having your site do such things as have a forum or such... choose Joomla. It has things such as "lightbox" that I have used to show off the photos of photographers and is impressive. Always be prepared to advance. Your competition is.
WordPress is the more appropriate solution in your case. Of course most people don't usually go that deep in it's customization so they think it's only good for writing posts in a blog. Joomla has huge and heavy administrative panel with tons of options and settings. It is recommended to use in in specific cases - if you need to manage multiuser access for example. Expect to spend more money for hiring a designer or buying a proper theme for it. Joomla natively generates crap HTML code - most of the content is displayed using table layout. So it needs to be overriden with custom php templates which isn't that easy job for the ordinary designer. Unless you are ok with the ridiculous amount of tables and other things ofc.
Tables ??? "crap code " ??? .... nope, not in Joomla. Evidence : joomla.org > search the code > not one table in there. Joomla hardly uses tables at all. Be careful who you listen to about Joomla.
I will also recommend for WP and Drupal. For more informed choice please take a look at CMSMatrix.org. Cheers
I don't need to listen to anybody about Joomla. Have spent enough time with it + couple of themes created. Read carefully what I wrote - it needs additional efforts if you want zero tables and ALL of its generated html code to be ready for styling with css (often it's impossible to address certain elements unless you wrap them in div's and give them custom id's and classes in the php functions...). The idea is that there aren't that many companies that make proper Joomla themes. Examples - icetheme.com, rockettheme.com. And if you want to hire a designer to make a custom quality theme, expect to spend quite an amount...
Here is the link for Joomla : NO tables at Joomla Make sure you open up the View>Source in whatever browser it is you are using. ¡Voila ! NO tables. I am not sure why you are trying to talk about this, when it is clear you are just dead wrong. I am working on a Rockettheme template this morning. There is not a table one to be found there either. I wont be back here to argue the point, since its pointless.
Easiest is Wordpress and it comes with many free themes... but if you plan on expanding in the future with new features then Wordpress is kind of limiting... so I would go with ModxCMS. I've tried them all and Modx is a fantastic CMS... just released version 1.0 and it's going to be taking off ...
