Man, some people just don't get the clue... Black Hat ways are wrong, and the SE will punish you for it deeply. They may ban you, that would be a tap on the shoulder.

Yeah.. Go ask BMW, Epinions or Shopping.com - they get all broken up about it (all have been caught implementing BH techniques- none were badly punished)

I feel for Matt - don't get me wrong - take the ePinions (and Parent company SHopping.com) - they were doing what's called Keyword Injections...

Now if Google bans them - users say

"look at what a piece of sh_t Google is because they don't come up with ePinions when I put 'consumer reviews' in as a query.. MSN and Yahoo get it right. Google Sucks"

..and so.. the big boys only get a warning - while others get tanked for many months... it's a tough go, and hard decisions to make

I agree, it shouldn't matter the size or popularity of your site. You should just be banned the same. Or give the same privilege to the smaller guy.

Sure... but then how do you deal with the public (searchers) back-lash when certain authority sites don't come up?

Some one types in BMW and they are no where to be found? Not exactly quality results now is it. That's the crux of the problem the SEs face with those kind of situations. I know it may suck - but what do you do?

I am sure Matt would have LOVED to make an example of them - but Ol MC doesn't run Google... and he is charged with 'Search Quality' - it becomes a tricky area....

I remember when the BMW site got caught....It was pretty big news....

If the big boys only get warning, how come SEO Inc's website is still in the tank? :D

Gypsy you've been leaving tire burns on the forums the last couple days.

Alot of BH i'snt about long term it doesn't matter if you get banned you expect to eventually get banned, its about yielding a higher return in a shorter time frame than you would using WH. And as alot of bloggers are saying lately, isnt all SEO agaisnt the SE's TOS? Its all designed to increase rankings and game the SE.
