You should be able to create an account at most banks with a parent. I've had a checking account since I was 15 at our local bank; my parents just had to co-sign the forms with me. Of course, it depends on what country you're in and your individual bank's policy.
I was not aware that banks had age requirments. I had a Regions account when I was 10 if not earlier.
It doesn't matter what age you are to create a bank account! But if you want a debit card then you have to be 16+
In US you have to be 18 to have any bank account [in your name]. -_- Try a local bank. Some will allow you to anyway...they "bend" the rules for ya. ^^;
If you are looking for a bank account without your parents having access to it, look for "student accounts". Most banks have them and as long as you have school ID you get an account and usually some added bonus (no minimum balance, a penalty forgiveness pass, etc). Try Bank of America
The only student checking account from BoA which is CampusEdge, still has a minimum age requirement of 18. I've yet to see any bank account where someone under 18 could establish their own without a legal guardian being a joint owner.
it has to do with the fact that your agreeing to terms and laws (basically signing a contract) and you have to be 18 to do so in your own name.
