I have a client the currently has a osc type store. All pages are on the same server. Over 1000 indexed pages. Great rankings in all engines. They are moving to a new cart that creates the dynamic store pages on a seperate server. This will knock out most the sites internal pages. The indexed pages have a fair number of external links coming from decent authority pages. So site url is www.abc.com Links to store that is www.carthere.com I'm concerned that I will not have a lot of internal pages to work with now and that the se might see any links coming back from www.carthere.com to www.abc.com as a ton of links from the same site and degrade any weight of the those links. Any thoughts, experiences, ideas?
Uhhh... I'd say yer dead.... ha ha ha. We generally try and get clients OFF of hosted carts and onto standalone ones such as OSC.... hmmmmmmm FOr starters you'd need to 301 redirect each page to it's new corresponding page. Or all rankings will be lost. Secondly - if the cart contains all the manufacturer Titles and Descriptions - which you can't change - your doomed as weill since it's a duplicate content issue that would nullify your pages as dupes.... Point is, we want as much control as possible with a cart.. hosted solutions usually have the LEAST amount of control... Generally speaking... you'd best be ready to do some PayPerCLick as SEO will be nearly prohibitive..... we do a LOT of ecommerce SEO here....
Yeah, I agree about moving people off hosted carts. Unfortunatly, I only handle the seo on this account and someone came in a sold these people a bill of goods. Now, I'm stuck with the mess. Already plan to redirect and have asked for unique titles.
Well it could be a VERY tough go mate... I'd be getting paid by the hour if I were you... h ha ha ha ha....
