So i just bought a new 42 inch LCD tv. LG, love the thing.

I bought some component video cables to go with em. I hook em up...I can either only get black and white picture...or Blue picture. I cant get the color to work properly with them!

so i plug in my normal red yellow and white cables...it works just fine...so...are the component cables faulty or whats the problem? i tried every way I can imagine plugging them in and still could only get blue or black and white color...help!

cheers for the looks and any replies!

    Z

oh i forgot to add. i see a S video cable spot...should I be using that in addition to the component cables that i bought?

if the component cables turn out faulty or whatnot, would using a S video cable produce better picture then the standard yellow red and white cables that came with the dvd player?

thanks for any help and please forgive my ignorance with this stuff. I am trying to pick it up!

The component av cables are color coded. red yellow white. Use s video its easier and better.

What are you planning to connect to it? A DVD player or Set Top Box or just a normal Co-Axial Cable?
In first two cases use the Red, Yellow and White cable (Yellow for Video, Red for right channel audio and White for left channel audio)
If you are using a Home Theater System, just use the Yellow cable to get the video output on your LCD.
If you are planning to connect your co-axial cable directly in to it, use a adapter.

Check your LCD's color system (B/G, NTSC, PAL) in settings if you are still getting distracted colors.

    thanks for the replies.

I was connecting the tv to my dvd player using the component cables...but getting the weird color like I said.

the component cables I bought are blue green and red. they give the weird color. i have the colors plugged into the respective ports in the dvd player from the tv (blue green and red) I will try changing the tvs color settings like you suggested abhik. Should i just go ahead and get the s video cable though? I imagine i could just plug that in and use it along with the red and white audio cables that came with the dvd player?

The standard cables that came with my dvd player are the red yellow and white. SO basically what i am understaning is I should return the component cables for a S video cable and I will get decent quality from that?

    thank you for your time

    cheers,

    Z

    Blue, Green and Red Cables?
Yeah, I heard them for the first time.
BTW, color does not matter. just connect the right jacks and it should be fine. I'd suggest you to use your DVD Player's own audio output instead of getting it through your LCD's Audio output.
