Any advice for planning a project?

I'm creating my first online business. I'm almost ready to put it online, but I think the planning process has been a mess. I have lots of documents that describe my ideas, concepts, goals, the website structure, logos and graphics, etc.
However, when I write down my ideas, I find it very hard to write them in an orderly structure.

I don't have a very clear idea as to how start planning a business website project.

Does anyone know of any book I can use to learn some project planning techniques or any software that can help me.

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

    It's a "proper website".
What I want is to be more tidy at the planning stage. Why is it relevant to tell the niche? I think any planning techniques can be applied regardless of the niche.

I'm not so sure planning is entirely necessary when starting up your business unless it is such a niche that you want to make a BIG entrance into the world of the internet.

If you're creating a site then I suggest you start off making realistic aims.

    - I set out with my forum looking to get 1 member a day after 1 month of being online which seemed realistic.
    - I decided what I need to invest in, design etc on the site.
    - I told myself I was going to learn about Internet Marketing and go from there.

Write down your goals and aims without going over the top and meet each criteria within a set time limit.

Do a little bit of research about:

    - Your audience. Who are you selling to?
    - What they like/don't like. What's going to close the deal with them?
    - How will they find you? When?

Once you've done that, think about logistics. Are you going to build a new site on your own? Hire someone from eLance to do it?

The more you think it through now, the easier it'll be to make it happen.

Thanks for taking your time to answer.
I have been using the majority of those ideas, but I'd like to get a book or something to learn from an organized method for planning business websites.
