This stupid mortgage advert caught my eye. The curser moves the tattoo needle around. It's stupid stuff like this that realy engages the average surfer and gets them interested in the site. I'm trying to implement some of these tactics into my own advertising campaigns. What adverts catch your eye even after you thought you had become "ad blind?"
I think Flash ads like this are a good start--when you turn your ad nto into a miniature Flash game, users are going to have a certain urge to play it, especially if it's a game they'd like to beat (like the ones where you try to shoot Bin Laden). Basically anything out of the ordinary gets my attention, and it's hard to make something creative with text or a static image, so Flash might be something to try. Tom
I totally agree, I love those kind of ads. I think they are a great idea to get attention drawn to what you are marketing. Im thinking about trying it.
There are plenty of people that specialize in that on DP that would be able to do it for you if you posted a thread in the Buy, Sell, Trade Services or Graphics and Multimedia Forums and your offering price is right.
The ones that flash constantly catch my eye. Actually, they strain my eyes, so I look at what's causing that strain and then I notice the ad.
I always thought the game flash ads were pretty cool. The ones where you push the button to beat the other person up and then you win a prize hahaha
Myspace is a good example of ads that are meant to catch a "younger demopgrahic". And they're all flash
Many of them catch my eye, but not enough to be interested in the product usually. A good example of this are the ones where a popup animated person walks across the screen, etc. Those catch my eye in asmuch as admiring someone's programming skills, but they are as annoying as can be.
The recent yahoo ads caught my attention well. 1. a guy who shaved himself clean 2. a beaver who cut down tree using chain saw 3. a monkey evolved into caveman evolved into business suit man 4. a lady who lifted a car All with one simple message: you can do everything (reading email) better. I'd say its a well executed campaign.
I don't like Flash ads that try to fool you into clicking. Ones that say "Click on the fly so the spider can catch it" or something silly. Of course, as soon as you click the ad you're swamped under an avalance of popups.. so I quickly learned that these little games aren't actually games at all.
