I don't think anyone here has said that, or anything to that effect,

I thought it was the "inaction as the best course of action has undesirable consequences!" That's how it was in the 90s at least.

Considering the recruiting requirements.. a good part of them were most likely just dropped out of high school, getting high all the time or fresh out of jail

You're right.. not just like me. Most people with college educations and are successful with careers don't sign up for the military ...

Got any statistics on how many of the people doing the ground fighting have a college degree? How about a high school degree? I wonder how many of them were making over $20,000 a year......

Not everyone is bad. But there are bad ones, too many.. I never said our whole military was full of bad people... only that we have troops over there doing horrible things without punishment.

I don't think Will is the one who displays concern for suicide bombers and terrorists' rights. We do have some to fill that role though, right?

What do you think gworld? Do you think HE does? What's your "educated" guess? ;)

Sorry but I believe this is untrue, at least an actual high school diploma is not required.

Why pretend to care? Do you think *they* want *you* to care about them? I did serve, and the last thing in the world *I* (and most of those that served) would ever want is someone like you pretending you actually care. Which is exactly why I and zman, and I'm sure others, don't let ungrateful twirps go around stomping on their good names or their service to our country.

So the trials in the last year that sentenced those convicted of torture were not punishment? You want to cry for "innocent until proven guilty," but you're willing to take one statement by someone from the Army that had self-doubt within it as fact? Whose the first to run crying "but, but, but torture?" as if it's wide spread and part of the every day life being in the military. Yea, we all see *those* kind, don't we?

zman, pass me one of those new hypocrite bars. The ones with extra nuts :p

I have no problem with normal Americans but what happens if the soldiers are people like you, Will or Gtech? :p

How many murders and torture cases will happen before someone notices and stops it?

This is the reason the military code of conduct exists and should be enforced on all military personals but when the politicians that have no idea on how to fight a war, take over and decide that it is OK to torture people against all military rules then the professionals soldiers can not do their job and it will be mess like the present situation.

    http://www.us-army-info.com/pages/pdfs/enlistment_standards.pdf

    Requirements Section 3:

    3. Education

    a. Possession of a high school diploma is desirable,
    although not mandatory, for enlistment
    in any component of the
Military Services. Section 520 of reference (a) states, "A person
who is not a high school graduate may not be accepted for
enlistment in the armed forces unless the score of that person on
the Armed Forces Qualification Test is at or above the thirtyfirst
percentile; however, a person may not be denied enlistment
in the Armed Forces solely because of his not having a high school
    diploma
if his enlistment is needed to meet established strength
requirements." Alternative credential holders (i.e., General
Education Development Certificates and certificates of attendance
and completion) and nongraduates may be assigned lower enlistment
priority based on their first-term attrition rates.

    b. Educational requirements for appointment as a
commissioned or warrant officer are determined by each Military
Service. Generally, a bachelors degree is a required prerequisite
for a commission or appointment. In addition, special occupations
(e.g., physician, chaplain) may require additional vocational
    2-2
credentials, which are determined by the Secretary of the Military
    Department concerned.

There are also special programs that allow for exceptions to the military such as the following which I believe is different from what Yo Yo posted.

I'm not sure but this may have something to do with it:

    http://www.e-skojec.com/archives/000481.html

Apparently educated people don't voluntarily join the military so they have to lower the bar even more to get anyone over there.

Then you wonder why we have so much abuse of power and violations against basic human rights like torturing and killing innocent people.
