As Democrats and Republicans seem unable to communicate with each other, I am going to escalate that question to a Democrat.

The Democrat I choose is Thomas P.M. Barnett.

Doctor Barnett is the author of The Pentagons New Map.

Doctor Barnett takes OBL's message and writes it in a style and format that helps Democrats understand the situation of the real world in our time.

Dr. Barnett agrees with most of the policies and strategies of the Bush administration, but faults the Bush administration for failing to explain the reasoning behind these policies and strategies to the American populace, our allies, our enemies, and those simply caught up in the conflict.

Dr. Barnett is a pretty decent analyst, although at times he can be pretty soft headed.

 

DA, I do not believe Will is a racist, bigot or egomaniac. I left xenophone off because I'm too lazy to go look it up at websters. I've seen no posting of Will's that would leave me to believe he is racist. I have seen others use this approach towards myself, zman, and others over the course of my stay here and chalk it up hurling out accusations and then making people defend them.

Do I believe you hate the US? No. I've not seen you make any posts that would suggest you hate the US. But truthfully, you have lobbed some wild claims towards America that I've taken offense with. I don't separate Bush as the individual the way liberals do. I didn't do that with Clinton either. When people attack our government, especially with things that I know are so wrong and false, I perceive it as an attack on my country. But I try to take into account that some individualize everything and the hatred towards GWB has no boundaries of truth or false.

To reiterate though, I don't recall any post you've made where I was left with the impression that "DA hates the US." GWB, yes, but the US, no.

nobody here hates USA. To accuse you and the others here of hating USA or be pro-terrorist is the same tactic that was used by Hitler's brown shirts in Germany, all intellectuals and democratic forces were accused of being spies and against Germany in order to keep them quite or eliminate them.

The American brown shirts like Gtech are just copying their German brothers and their tactics by accusing everybody who doesn't agree with their policy of war and hatred to be anti-America and pro terrorist.

I do on the other hand take offense to some of the name calling and charges of racism. The race card is old and invalid in a debate such as this. I really dont get where you are coming up with calling anyone a racist in this thread.

You're paying that price b/c we don't have enough oil refineries, not because theres not plenty of oil. Why dont we have more oil refineries? Because the oil companies can get richer along with bush and his family that way.

Look at the profit result from the oil companies and then talk about who is making money from this war.

 

I was was out drinking one night a few years ago with a bunch of friends.

One of my buddies tripped (because he was so drunk he couldn't walk straight) and fell into a pretty girl.

The pretty girl happened to be attached to a fairly large fellow.

The large fellow had a funny looking shirt on. And it seemed that about a dozen of his friends had the same funny looking shirts on. The shirts said something about a softball team...

I knew we were in for a bit of trouble.

But no, the large fellow explained that everything was going to be all right. They just wanted to take our little buddy outside. We didn't have to get involved. They had nothing against us. We were all right by them.

Now, even if my little buddy hadn't weighed 120lbs and stood 5'4" tall -- I still would not have let the softball team take him outside and beat the hell out of him.

And so we did what we had to do. Kevin was one of us. If he was going to take a beating, we were going to take a beating with him.

It actually turned out OK. We had only one fairly minor injury and we did end up running the softball team out of the bar.

How is this relevant, you may ask. (Hell, I'm surprised that you're still reading!)

Here's how it is relevant.

I am on the Western Civilization team.

If somebody decides to kill 3,000 New Yorkers, they are not going to be OK with me. Mind you, I do not like New Yorkers, but that's between me and them.

If somebody decides to assassinate George H.W. Bush, they are not going to be OK with me.

If someone tries to destroy Western Civilization and replace it with religious authoritarianism, they are not going to be OK with me.

If someone tries to destroy the only functional democracy in the Middle East, they are not going to be OK with me.

If someone tries to prevent Iraq from becoming the first functional democracy in the Arab world, they are not going to be OK with me.

If you don't want to be on my team, that's fine.

I dont suggest anything about you or zman. To me you both appear like people who are patriots and love their country and believe they are doing the right thing. You will not hear me thowing those accusations out at you two because I dont think its true.

Yes, GWB is the figurehead of the govt and an easier target. You will not hear me say clinton was a good guy either.
It is in NO WAY an attack on your country. That would be like Iraqis getting upset if you insulted Saddam. Same principle.

You cant know whats true and whats false. You can only do the same as me and try and use your best judgement.
