I am hurt that you did not mention me by name Gworld I am just kidding Gworld. You have been a good sport. Anyway, I have enjoyed reading at least 600 pages of this thread before I opened my big mouth on some subjects. I think it is great that even though most don't agree with each other that you have had some fun with it. It feels like a good football game I just went to. D
Where is the source for this? I would actually like to see it. Just read NBC News, ABC, CNN, AP, and a few others still showing the story, plus watched 2 news programs on it stating the story, local fox news just ended the story, none of them said it was 'made up' yeah I lied, I posted again, for a source though, not to argue.
I guess it depends on what you cut/paste out of what is actually reported as true/not. For example, the way you, and much of the media is attempted to bring this story to light, in order to take the "Iraqi Voting" out of what little coverage it actually had, and to attempt (successfully) to kill the patriot act (thanks dems, next time we have a terrorist attack, we know who to thank), and for the NYT to make money off a book deal, it's being portrayed falsely. Accurate coverage: http://michellemalkin.com/archives/004090.htm As the NYT reported, approx 500 people suspected of terrorism were under surveillance. No wonder gworld is so upset, it was a risk to his friends. 500 people, that's all? I'd have figured/expected more. Maybe they were not doing enough? It was successful in thwarting at least one terrorist attack which saved untold lives. No doubt if it hadn't been done, the same NYT and gworld would be right there ragging that enough wasn't done. Again, no wonder gworld is so upset. Why do this when we could just get a court order? Read the article, it's a perfect example of obstructionist judges that do not take the threat on our country seriously. If you actually read the meat of the article, what the headline suggests and what was/is taking place are far different. Monitoring emails and phone calls, international, of suspected terrorists. Again, no wonder gworld is so upset. In trying to understand the fuss over this, it's clear *some* in our country are doing not only their job, but their duty in protecting it's citizens. It's clear *some* do not want to go after terrorists. When was this not common knowledge regarding the patriot act? What exactly is the news? NSA monitors suspected terrorists and the NYT and gworld gets upset? What's missing? Who, besides gworld (not an American anyway), would be upset at monitoring suspected terrorists and preventing terrorist attacks?
“There is no doubt that this is inappropriate,†declared Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He promised hearings early next year. I suppose according to Gtech and his crazy friends the chairman of senate judiciary committee (Republican) is also not American and is an enemy agent who supports terrorism.
Yesterday was the 34th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan in 1971 war (16 December).. I have been thinking about it the whole day. I would like to make my point about this thread - SOMETIMES DIALOGUE MAY NOT BE THE BEST SOLUTION. The biggest example to this is the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan. The two countries have fought three full fledged wars for Kashmir (1947, 1965 and 1971). India won all three times. But each time Indian politicians thought that a solution to the dispute should not be forced and should only be resolved through dialogue. In fact after the 1971 war India had captured 93000 Pakistani soldiers and could have forced Pakistan into any sort of agreement (including total withdrawal of Pakistan from Kashmir) in return of the 93000 Prisoners of War. The Indian army had an unanimous opinion at that time, that the military victory should be converted to a political victory as well, but Indira Gandhi, who was the PM of India at that time, totally went against the opinion of her military and political advisors and stuck to her belief that the dispute should be resolved by dialogue. Under her , India and Pakistan signed the Shimla agreement (http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Shimla_Agreement) To all the peace activists , this was a great gesture. But looking back, this has proved to be one of the greatest political mistakes of all times. Today Kashmir is a big mess, not only for the two governments, but also for the people of the two countries. Back in 1971 Indira Gandhi could never have imagined that this problem would get so out of hand, else she would have taken Kashmir back at that time itself. Pakistan becoming a nuclear power was out of question at that time; religious fanatism was rare and terrorism had not emerged. 34 years back . Indira Gandhi's decision was a major disappointment for the Indian army and many common people, but today the nation is more or less agreed upon the fact , that the attempt to find a peaceful solution was a big mistake. For all those who have lost their lives after terrorism emerged in Kashmir in the late 80s, it has proved to be a costly mistake. Today the young generation of India and Pakistan hates each other more than they did 30 years back. Terrorism and religious fanatism has brought the dispute to each and every city of the two countries. A new class of Hindu fundamentalists has come up to "counter" the Islamic fundamentalists and secularism seems to have taken a back seat in Indian politics. Kashmir 's tourism-dependant economy has been totally destroyed after emergence of terrorism. If in 47. 65 and 71 , Indian leaders had not been stubborn with their ideas of "Peace" and "Solution through dialogue" , the Kashmir dispute would have solved long back and maybe the two countries would have had friendly relations by now. When I joined DP in July , I was of the opinion that US had no right to interefere with Iran's nuclear policy. After reading about the recent statements made by Iran's president , I have changed my opinion. The question that comes to my mind is , if a person can make such statements openly, what would he do when he gets Nuclear weapons and long-range missiles one day. The Islamic fundamentalists today are a group which have a simple policy - "either you agree with us or we blow up" (what they blow up, is not of any importance to them - in Iraq and Pakistan they have actually blown up mosques just to prove their point - Bangladesh has seen a series of small blasts by the fundamentalist groups who have decided amongst themselves that Bangladesh should be ruled by them. ) The point I am trying to make is - "Peace" is a very beautiful word..it is nice to talk about things like brotherhood and mutual understanding... but dont be so stubborn with your ideas that few year down the line , you have to regret the choices you made. Indian leaders chose "a solution by dialogue" over a "forced solution" in 47, 65 and 71.... today this has proved to be a very costly mistake and the price has been paid by thousands killed in terrorist attacks in Kashmir and other parts of India. Forcing solutions (War in this case ) is never a good choice, but sometimes IT IS THE BETTER CHOICE.
Nope, just you. It's clear you support terrorists, has been for a long time. Headline: "NSA does it's job protecting Americans from Terrorists by monitoring international emails/telephone calls of suspected terrorists and gworld is upset!" Imagine if the NYT wasn't trying to sell a book and put the real meat of the story in the headline?
“There is no doubt that this is inappropriate,†declared Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He promised hearings early next year. Is he trying to sell a book too? Gtech, you are a joke. You can not admit to the facts, even when NSA, chairman of the senate judiciary committee and Bush admit to it. Bush has already admitted that there was no WMD but you and your friends still post that one day may be it is found.
I'm wondering who has actually read the article before making comments. The NYT doesn't expose the *real truth* about the NSA actually doing it's job and monitoring terrorists, until much after the alarmist hype. Headline: "NSA does it's job protecting Americans from Terrorists by monitoring international emails/telephone calls of suspected terrorists and gworld is upset!" Imagine if the NYT wasn't trying to sell a book and put the real meat of the story in the headline? I'd say you are the joke! I've never seen anyone more upset about monitoring terrorists, than you
“There is no doubt that this is inappropriate,†declared Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He promised hearings early next year. I think he is upset too, don't you agree? I understand that you are not upset that NSA spies on American citizens. After all in your opinion it is fine if Americans home will be searched without any justification or Americans be imprisoned without charges, lawyers or conviction. You don't even mind if Americans are tortured. Too bad you are kind of born too late and in a wrong country, you could have been a real good SS soldier, killing anyone who did not agree with Fuhrer.
Headline: "NSA does it's job protecting Americans from Terrorists by monitoring international emails/telephone calls of suspected terrorists and gworld is upset!" Imagine if the NYT wasn't trying to sell a book and put the real meat of the story in the headline? Friends of yours? This is just too perfect the example of you gworld! The NSA does it's job protecting Americans from Terrorists by monitoring international emails/telephone calls of suspected terrorists and you are upset!
Nope, no joke. Oh yeah, it's been all over the news, and net... Gee, it must be true. As Gtech said, it was nothing more than an attempt to once again derail any of the good that has come out of Iraq.
It has been all over the news and Internet but Gtech said it is not true and it proved for you that it was not true. Do you even you read your own posting and do you understand how dumb it sounds?
You are a complete idiot. What is wrong with the story? What is false about the story? The fact that Bush did NOTHING "secretly". That is where the story is false. Members of congress knew about this, both Democrat and Republican. The very Judge of the "secret court" also knew about this. What's false about the story is that nothing took place in "secret". James Risen, the author of the false story, ironically has a book coming out. This story is part of his book. The book is published by Simon & Schuster, the same editor that Richard Clarke's books have been published by and edited. Ironically this is also whacko Hillary's publisher. I expect there will no doubt be a 60 Minutes appearance by Mr. Risen when his book comes out because Viacom (liberal network) owns both CBS and Simon & Schuster. NY Times claims they have been sitting on this because the White House asked them to keep it quiet, which is total BS. They have been sitting on it order to promo another liberal whackos, the world is so grime because of Bush book. In fact, they have been sitting on it for a year. Why did it come out today? Because they want to cover up the great news that happened in Iraq yesterday. They want this and the Patriot Act and McCain's torture bill to be the subjects on the Sunday shows. You just have to love the liberal run press and media. Since re-writting history is not working with the American public, the press now continues to resort to just making things up.
It seems Bush administration ideological bankruptcy is causing you and other right-wing nuts an acute form of paranoia. according to you the enemies of USA include the following: US senate - Wants a law against torture US congress- Does not approve the parts of patriot act that can be danger to American civil liberties American Media- Because they print the news about the failures in Iraq, torture and other embarrassing news to administration American people- Because they protest against the war and the polls shows more and more people are disillusioned with this administration. Isn't easier instead of making so many excuses, just admit to this administration failure?
Heh, after all the hype and fluff to preface a book sale, the meat of the story is summarized as: OMG! The NSA actually did it's job! They followed up on intelligence captured from terrorists to protect the American people! They spied on terrorists and those connected to them. Oh, the outrage! Holy moly, there's the scandal of the century! Give em a pay raise!
