If you just want to have a made up stories about the virtue of being good then why do you need God and Bible? It seems there are a lot of people who are noticing how illogical religion is and instead of admitting that and get over it, they are making up new kind of religions based om made up mystical definitions of God which has nothing to do with reality of religion as we know it, for example Intelligent design which is the latest stupid trend in USA.
gworld is absolute proof against intelligent design. No "intelligent designer" would have made gworld.
There are always exceptions... Anyway, I believe that religion is a personal matter nowadays, of course God and the Bible have been "around" for a while, and at the time they were discovered or conceived whatever you like, things and people were quite different. In other words if you want to analyse religion, you should do it from a historical point of view also. Actually, I would suggest not wasting your time, but I'll leave it up to you.
Little willy How is the world from under your bed? Are you still killing all the enemy soldiers with your special force gun on your xbox, so you can feel like a man? If you be a polite boy and won't disturb the grown ups discussions here, may be one day your mommy let you touch a real gun.
religion is a scam. its all bullshit. you realize like 200 years ago, christians would kill and torture people for things such as adultry or suspected witch craft. yea thats right, priests were torturing people over issues like this. not only that, think of the worlds major problems, safe to say ATLEAST 50% of them are directly a result of religion. perfect example: IRAQ Thoes people in iraq are fighting us because of their religion, thats what is driving them to fight us. religion is a horrible horrible thing. does way more hurt than good. look at thoes people who are kidnapped right now, mike fox and thoes christian peace maker team or whatever. WTF are they doing there? theyre over there trying to convert muslims to christians, idiots. just if religion was done away with, the world would be such a more peaceful place. religion causes hate, wars, violence, and so on.
Yes, religion itself divides at least as much as it unites. And it's been the excuse and the reason for many wars. That's why I believe it should only exist at a very personal level and not much more. When you look back in history 200 years, you'll realize how many bad things were done, but the same is going to happen in 200 years time, when our descendants are going to look back at us, as their history and they are prob going to say the same things we do. So some atrocities of the past were not felt as bad as we do today. It's amazing and sickening to a degree, but true and understandable. Ever thought of it this way?
The question of religion is much more complicated than personal choice. It is a like a driver that decides to drive very fast, should we say that this is a personal choice? No, because it can result in deadly accidents. Should we forbid everyone from driving because there is a chance of accident? No. Freedom of religion is an important concept because you can not fight something by simply forbidding it and take away individual right to chose. Does this mean that we should only tolerate religion and do not try to expose how wrong and illogical is? No, we have a duty to educate the society and expose the illogical nature of religion. The biggest problem with religion is not about the stories but the fact that it takes away the responsibility of the individual and place it in the hand of unknown entity that is called God. The basic conclusions of such philosophy effects everyone in the society, even those that in first glance do not seem to be religious.
Your only duty is the duty to mind your own goddamned business. Religion exhibits some of those characteristics, but not nearly as much as your beloved socialism. Coming from the likes of you, this criticism of religion rings hollow.
little Willy Is your mommy going to buy you the special force costume and gun that you wanted for Christmas? If you be a good boy and don't disturb when grown ups are talking, I am sure Santa Claus will bring it for you. I think it is getting kind of old with paranoia about socialism, you should quote the latest paranoia about Muslim terrorist instead.
It is interesting that the bible prophesies that very soon the United Nations will gather together and wipe out all religion from the face of the earth. A complete Ban on all religions is in the works. Why? They are responsible for the lies they perpetrate about God, and their hypocrisy will be dealt with severely. It is interesting that God himself hates modern day Babylon the Great – the empire of false religion and he will put it into the hearts of the nations to wipe her out once and for all. Man has had thousands of years to prove they can lead themselves without true, divine guidance. And they have failed miserably. Religion has become a snare and a racket according to the bible. Men lie to promote their own thoughts, their own greed, and their own purposes. People commit horrible acts in the name of God, and bring great disrespect to his name. As you can see today, the undermining of religion is already under way. The commercial system in the US is already pulling away from holiday themes that were so-called biblical. Churches are emptying around the world and are being turned into nightclubs and condos. It’s happening at a feverish pace that even the world clerics must recognize. First the religious system will go down, followed by the commercial system that has exploited the harlot (false religion). And then the bible say’s – God himself will act against all wicked people in the great day of Armageddon. Weather you believe there is a God or not, or that the bible is nothing but a story that has survived over 2000 years; we can all appreciate the world is heading for severe calamity, and you better hope there is a God when the showdown actually takes place. One of the signs of the times that leads up to this turning against religious entities is 2 timothy 3:1-5. D
Can you show us were in bible talks about United Nation? If bible is true because the stories are 2000 years old, there are other religion that are much older, does this mean that they are better than Christianity? Doug, I don't know if you are listening too much to Pat Robertson or smoking something too strong, but if you are listening to Robertson, don't and if you are smoking funny tobacco then give us some.
Dude a lot of churches emptied out because the priest were grabbing pee -pees not because of a vast conspiracy. Yeah that night club the Limelight in manhatten used to be pretty sweet bigdoug if you havn't noticed more people are turning to religious fundmetalism all over the world, hardly people turning away from religion, there are like born again christians in tons of high positions in the government. Are you saying that capitalism is going down becasue of the "harlot"

Most churches that I know have been growing - and people are being changed for the better. The catholic church I don't know much about (except the gay priest issues on the news)
Reaping the Whirlwind Yes, the Bible sounds a solemn warning: A terrible clash between religion and politics is coming. In Revelation chapter 17, the Bible depicts the world empire of false religion stained with blood as a “great harlot who sits on many waters.†These “waters†represent ‘peoples and nations.’ (Verses 1, 15) The harlot is named “Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth,†and she is “drunk with the blood of the holy ones.†(Verses 5, 6) “Babylon†is a fitting name for organized false religion, inasmuch as many of her doctrines stem from the ancient city of Babylon. She has earned her murderous reputation by her persecution of true Christians throughout the centuries. The world empire of false religion is further pictured as riding a beast with “seven heads and ten horns . . . [which] mean ten kings.†(Verses 3, 12) The book of Daniel identifies this “beast†as the instrument entrusted with maintaining world peace, the United Nations. The churches have gone on record as supporting this organization. In October 1965, Pope Paul VI described the UN as “the last hope of concord and peace.†In 1979, Pope John Paul II addressed the UN General Assembly. Without ever mentioning Christ or his Kingdom, he spoke of the UN as “the supreme forum of peace and justice.†From August 28 to August 31, 2000, more than 500 representatives from 73 countries converged on New York City. They met together at the United Nations for “The Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders.†The leaders—many clad in turbans, saffron-colored robes, feather headdresses, or long black cloaks—represented a multitude of faiths. Among these were Baha’i, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, and religions of Christendom. The delegates met at the United Nations for the first two days of the four-day conference. However, the conference was not organized or funded by the United Nations but by various foundations. Nevertheless, both UN and religious leaders spoke of the importance of working together to bring an end to poverty, racism, environmental problems, war, and weapons of mass destruction. The delegates signed a document entitled “Commitment to Global Peace.†While acknowledging that violence and war are “sometimes perpetrated in the name of religion,†the document declared that the signers would “collaborate with the United Nations . . . in the pursuit of peace.†But why is this union of religion and the UN so dangerous? Because “the ten horns . . . and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked . . . and will completely burn her with fire.†(Verse 16) False religion is therefore headed straight for a catastrophic collision with politics. Being denuded and her rank uncleanness revealed, she will be destroyed utterly. That will spark the “great tribulation†that Jesus spoke of, culminating in the battle of Armageddon. Christ, backed by invincible heavenly hosts, will “crush and put an end to†Satan’s worldwide system, leaving only the ‘meek that will inherit the earth.’ These will be true Christians who have, among other things, steered clear of divisive politics.—Matthew 24:21; Daniel 2:44; Psalm 37:10, 11; Matthew 5:5; Revelation 6:2; 16:14-16. D
so jesus is going to lay waste to all the religious right ass clowns , awesome so how exactly is the un the 10 horns or kings? isn't there like way more then 10 of anything in the un?
Actually, it is the United Nations and it’s leaders that will crush all religion, as we know it. It will see religion as the greatest threat to mankind survival and will put a stop to it. According to the Bible, how many of such world powers would there be? The answer was given to the aged apostle John and shows where we are in the stream of time. An angel told John: “There are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived.â€â€”Revelation 17:10. What five world powers had already come and gone by John’s day? Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece. Which one still existed? Rome. And which power had “not yet arrivedâ€? The Anglo-American World Power of our day (United States and Great Britain). These are the world powers with which God’s people, ancient and modern, have been primarily concerned. An especially important fact is this: There was to be a succession of only seven such world powers! A contemporaneous eighth power, which would include remnants of the seven, was foretold to exist for a short time during the days of the seventh (United Nations) Revelation 17:10, 11) This means that we are living during the time of the last of the great world powers ruled by man. There will be no more! D
