In Texas we just believe in an eye for an eye and God doesn't even really enter into it.

One of my friends in Vancouver is also married to a girl from Texas. Her husband doesn't believe in God either but she makes both of us crazy with her discussions about God this, Jesus that all the time and guess what, she is a Bush supporter because Bush talks with God.

I have just learned by time, not to say anything when she starts to speak since it is hopeless to convince her of anything. I don't think intelligence is the reason my friend married her.

You said teenagers and children. Yeah Texas executes teenagers. I personally don't see a problem with executing a teenager that kills people in cold blood.

The way you wrote it makes it sound like Texans are killing children in the name of God. Not happening.

I think everyone has those feelings of revenge and anger but we have to separate our feelings from what is best for our society.

Let me give you an example, if someone hurt my child, would I wish that person was dead? Yes.

Would I kill that person? Most likely.

Would I support the execution of that person by government? No I won't.

The government responsibility is not to satisfy my feelings of revenge but to enforce rules and regulation that are beneficial to everyone in the society and increase the standards that we all interact with each other. Even if we forget that we can not take the moral high ground if ourselves are guilty of the same crime, execution is not a logical alternative with the total cost involved and the chance of mistakes that can not be corrected.

 

Yet you think that as an individual you would be better qualified to kill someone and not make any mistakes?
