    Hellow all,
This thread started by me. While you all are busy in talking about marriages and other things I installed freeware AVG. Anyhow I enjoyed this long discussion. Thank you members reading your suggestions made me a technician.

I DID want to read about it because the subject was one I am passionate about. I could see that your passions were different than mine and I was jealous that you could type with one hand.

You can if you know it won't effect the member's rating. I didn't do like you did to me and hunt you down in another forum to give bad rep. That was a very mature move on your part, especially given that it was in an exchange of ideas between Shawn and myself that was concluded and a couple days old.

But that kind of lackadaisical research is apparent in you, since you used only this thread to determine the anti virus solution you should use. Not only has this thread stressed you out enough to make vile accusations about my parents, it has also cost you money you didn't need to spend.

See what you're in for, Colleen? I think you should break your engagement with this guy. He isn't capable of doing enough research to find out what satisfies you. On the other hand...

Talking about real world vandalism, I once heard a Jamaican man say, "It is just miserable people trying to make other people miserable".

That's probably as good an answer as any. Virus makers are often kids who are bored, socially isolated, or just plain losers trying to make a name for themselves. The fact vthat some of them get hired for big bucks by antivirus software companies and other computer security companies doesn't help that situation.

Another major motivation is money: If someone can put a zombie on your computer that will send out mega amounts of spam, that someone can get paid for doing so by spam outfits.

This part is so true..My ex brother in law was a hacker, who had a pretty sweet setup until he got busted. He had all his bills paid automatically from companies, checks issued to him as if he were an employee, etc. His punishment for being busted he went to work making big $$$ at a few larger software firms, one software is currently being distrubuted with Norton Pro and now builds military computers and computers for data recovery for local police and feds. By breaking the law he proved his skills = a very successful career..Go figure.

Those who violates the rights of other individuals are antisocial elements. They should be punished. Governments should be strict against these elements.

Those have been out there for awhile, nothing like script kiddies who have no idea on anything but can run a simple program to make them think they are cool and computer savvy :p If my son ever gets into that shit his computers will be yanked from him faster than I can ruin this thread!

Going back to the original post when this thread was about inti-virus software. ;) I have to tell you that I used Norton a while back and it liked to quarantine infected files. Well when a file used to boot up the system was infected and thanks to norton it was quarantined. My system no longer booted up so I had to re-install windows. After that I switched to McAfee and never switched back.

This may sound stupid but I havn't have any antivirus installed on my PC for almost 3 years. I just update all security patches and use the MS firewall. No problems so far :)

latehorn, the firewall included with Windows XP is not an adequate firewall at all. And as has been said already, if you aren't using an anti virus program, you are making everyone you communicate with unsafe. You are gambling and it is foolish, especially when excellent solutions are available for free and require very little input from you after installation.

Grump is absolutely right. It's foolish people like latehorn that end up clogging email servers and inboxes with crap sent out by infected computers owned by people who think it can't happen to them. Latehorn, you may be infected and not even know it. Your laziness or ignorance adds to the extra work and inconvenience the rest of us have to deal with. That's not only foolish - it's irresponsible.

    Yeah! ...what he said. :)

You really owe it to everyone else. And, if that is not a powerful enough motivator, think about this...

If you get hit with a virus, that virus will most likely scan your computer for e-mail addresses to send itself to. Most of the e-mail addresses on your computer likely belong to family, friends and business contacts. Do you really want to be responsible for allowing a virus to attack them? How good will it look to your business associates, clients, suppliers, etc. if they get a virus and it came from you? If you won't do it for the masses, at least do it for the people you know.
