Go with Kaspersky 5.0, forget about that full package. If you want spyware protection Spybot is free and as good as it gets along side adaware but just spybot would be fine. If you want a firewall, I'd recommend Kerio, its simple and clean and very stable as a program that interacts with windows.

Anyone got a coupon code for Kaspersky? lol

Have I gone too far yet? lol

I use Spybot for spyware and I use Zone Alarm for a firewall and I'm happy enough with both.

Norton sucks. Choose AVG or Firewall instead.

Choose AVG or firewall instead? It's the firewall part that confused me a bit. Are you still in the habit of making random comments digimania or will you come back and reply to my query?

Weir, just go with an antivirus that includes a firewall, and that can detect spyware/malware too :)

I got the Kaspersky 1. I had to get something before the Microsoft virus struck lol.

I've got Zone Alarm and Spybot already so just needed the antivirus.

Software based firewalls are useless, just put a broadband router with built in firewall and a good antivirus.

Wait till you guys hear this.

I installed Kaspersky on 2/02/06 and everything was going fine until I went home and loaded up the laptop. First a warning came up

    "Microsoft Windows had to close.

Windows has recovered from a serious error"

Then I went to load up the internet and every time it had just connected the computer restarted. I did all the virus-scans, spyware scans and scan disk but none of these fixed the problem. I uninstalled Kaspersky and the internet loaded straight away.

On a seperate issue I had an error come up on Friday afternoon telling me that the virtual memory was low but I dont know if this was a related problem.

Does anyone know why I would be getting this problem with the computer restarting when it connects to the internet?

Yes.. Conflict between some antiviruses (if you have two brands installed), or bad rules made for the firewall.

OR ... some incompatibility between the antivirus and firewall.

THat's why i suggested a product that includes them both.

Cool! Well the moral of this thread is to

    1) Listen to expertu instead of everyone else
    2) Dont install Kaspersky with Zone Alarm

    lol

Instead listening someone who is expert, for a start, in username, and give subjective opinions as much as he can, try and install what is best for your hardware/software confguration.

This is why almost every firewall or antivirus is give a try or shareware or even freeware.

Best firewall or antivirus does not exist. All depend on need and satisfaction of user and config of his computer.
