Not sure if going right to the front door of these thieving webmasters that put up Torrent sites or Stolen content Forums, but it is time these kinds of sites and forums that exist primarily for the purpose of facilitating stolen content be shut down. here is the short message from the webmaster on his website: message on shareconnector.com "Last Monday the guys from BREIN visited me at home to convince me to close ShareConnector or else they will start a civil proceeding with a claim. Of course, this does not mean I agree with their point of view, it’s just that I can't afford taking any risks. As of today, November 12, 2007 I decided to close down. If there is anything new to report, you will be informed. Thank you for all your support and understanding." BREIN has successfully brought about the closing of a number of torrent sites in the past.
Sound like they're doing a god job. I think it's probably an uphill battle though, for every site that's closed, two more open.
Once a couple of these "webmasters" get hit by huge lawsuits that bankrupt everything they own, I'm sure most of the smaller ones will disappear in a hurry.
I run a warez forum but I put different details in the whois section , its agains TOS but atleast I am safe.
I think what you do is tottaly illegal and do not make you safe at all, because they have more ways than only checking WHOIS.
Must be true, and that site must be one of many of the repopulation as I have never heard of it. I'm not much on the sharing scene anymore, every since that one gameboy emulator thingy.....
In these days, it's ironic that people still believe in domino effect. The internet is so diverse and huge that you will never close all torrent trackers, and that the smaller trackers will not collapse just because big trackers shut down. The maximum damage somebody could do to the torrent is forcing them to move from HTTP protocol at port 80 to something else (maybe moving back to IRC? Or maybe even from TCP to UDP).
this will never happen in my country, is just for some dumb americans, and other law abiding countries. Most of these forums are managed by big guys in foreign countries, and there is no chance of shutting them down.
Dumb Americans ? Are you for real ? Have you ever coded a software ? Or worked on a design ? Or created a piece of music ? You feel theft is right and preventing it makes someone Dumb. Dude get a life!
The dumb americans are those who are afraid all companies shutting their warez forum down. Do not misunderstand my words.
Get off your moral high horse Ruffnet, most sites linked to from this forum are no more or no less acceptable or repugnant than torrent sites. Business wants to claim the maximum benefits for the digital economy and squeals like a pig to the slaughter when it can't have it all. The music industry, in particular, has it coming for years. Grown fat off CD reissues, it clings to dubious copyright protection which currently stands at 50 years over here and now they want to extend it to 100. I, personally, long for the day when the music industry, as it currently is, is completely wiped away. Right from its very inception the internet was designed to be decentralised as possible - an architecture built to withstand a nuclear war. Industry, begrudgingly, has tried to use the technology at hand rather than just try to suppress it - see Apple's massive iTune's portfolio. But it's done so very late in the day. The use of torrents to pass information throughout the net will not be stopped.
So you think we should embrace a lack of morals and revel in the repugnant? Your thinking is so destructive, you don't like the music industry, so you feel it is ok to steal and destroy? What if I want to form a band and sell my album of songs for $1, do you feel that it is fine and right to steal my album and send it all over the internet for nothing? Sorry, there is a difference between right and wrong. If I spend the next 6 months of my life 14 hours a day programming a great application, what right does that give some snot nose to just steal that property? that is theft, and morally can not be justified... just because some are doing it does never make it right we should strive for doing the right in right or wrong
So, a couple of internet dudes went to your own house and had a conversation to you about trying to make you shut down, so you did. If none of them were cops or lawyers why didn't you just knock them out. Seriously, you don't have to take it from a group of rats. And about this "its a crime" and stealing crap. Its pure bull. Everyone knows that the music industry would flop if the internet "crime" would stop. The reason why some rock band can charge $80 per person a live show is because of this sharing. I don't know if I would go that far, but when I see that Justin Dude and "big hot-shot" straight up masta killa rapper 50 cent doing songs together, sometimes I think you are right.
Even though I agree that online file sharing needs to be shut down in order to save the media industry from going into a slump, that is so unprofessional going to someone's house and requesting them to close their website.
I support freedom of speech and freedom of act and uncensored internet. Thats why I have nothing against torrents/warez sites.
I do not think file sharing is freedom of speech at all. It is more like file stealing and this is what it should really be called. These criminal website owners profit big from ad revenue and donations from users. These file stealing websites do not provide their own content and are empty vessels with nothing of their own. They make the money and pass the bad Karma off onto the people and people do not see this. They rely on and encourage people to upload illegal material for their own gain and then put the moral, spiritual, and criminal blame on the users of the portal websites. These torrent and P2P sites would probably be legit if they just removed copyrighted content or illegal content and links upon request. They are hurting not only the corporations, but the honest hard working small business owners and independent musicians as well. They hurt people who create altogether, and are just trying to feed their families. In the end people will find out that they brought more misery into their lives with this file stealing when the shutdown/ crackdown gets hot as the users and facilitators lose much more than they bargained for..
long live the dotcommunists, that's what I say The only way to get rid of copyright abuse would to make everything copyleft. And until that day, torrent sites will exist.
