Okay I thought about how to get high page rank, and an idea that came to my mind was too good to be true, I believe. Why not make a free site at geocities.com or angelfire.com, who have 9/10 page rank. Wouldn't this increase your page rank tremendously if you linked it to your own website?
You do it. We'll be interested to see how the experiment goes. Can you show me a geocities member page that has PR9 though?
Only the page rank of the page linking to you passes. If you look, a lot of the user pages have no page rank and wouldn't pass any PR. It a page had incoming links, it could have a high PR, but you would still need to get the backlinks.
Do you think google people are less smarter than you.. Google spent a lot of money on their programmer, only reason behind that they must always AHEAD from the other webmasters. If you want to be smarter, than they will simply penalized you, and you will not informed for that reason. As We know At present google put all new site in snadbox for 60 to 90 days and during those days page renak will be 0 for new listed site. google prefer to see good number of backlink for new site during sandbox period.
Denied what? Matt has said they have a system in place which could be considered the sandbox - although they don't call it that and it doesn't apply to every site. It probably applies to almost any competitive or semi-competitive keyword. For the other poster, PR has nothing to do with the sandbox. You still get backlinks counted and PR. You can have a PR8 site in the sandbox. Google just doesn't factor in your backlinks when calculating SERPS during this period so it will be almost impossible to rank well for any competitive keyword.
Hi xponse, I can understand why you say that because the term "sandbox" has been used to mean many things, however, the lastest news on the sandbox is from Matt Cutss, (well almost from him, it's not a direct quote, but a paraphrasing of what he said). "Matt said that there wasn't a sandbox, but the algorithm might affect some sites, under some circumstances, in a way that a webmaster would perceive as being sandboxed." http://www.threadwatch.org/node/4714 Most webmasters take that to mean that there IS a sandbox even though he said there IS NOT a sandbox, go figure. In any case, he said Google's algorithm might affect some sites under some circumstances. So, now we know, it's not ALL sites. Bompa
If your new page had a PR9/10, then yes. But you are going to need to get a lot of links to it in order to do that. It's PageRank, not SiteRank.
Page rank will pass only when you link from the home page of geocities and not creating a page in it.
No, but they think differently. If you think that google have all the angles covered then you're plain wrong. Complete BS. You don't see the 'sandbox effect' on all new sites. If you do see the 'effect' you can still get PR. Who knows wtf G want to see whilst your site is experiencing the 'sandbox effect'
I agree with xponse, people are ready to pay thru nose to understand and beat google but generally fail. One thing, i can bet, google upgrades and plugs its holes pretty fast, so i donot thonk that would work, But any ways linking the site with relevant sites, does help, so go ahead RSC Complete Trade Portal
I have to disagree. We're all in the game of trying to beat the search engines (not just Google). Understanding how they sort of work is part of the game. The game is to find something that works and exploit it. If the goal posts move, then find the new goal post and adapt your strategies. Google may well plug major holes pretty quick (or what they think is a major hole), but they will always base their SERPs on something. Our job is to try and work out what that something is and exploit it for our sites (or our clients) until the something changes.
Not true. It not how smart you are, but how creative. The most creative people, the ones who have it figured out, are not going to work for anyone except themselves. Just because a person works for Google does not mean they are all knowing.
