I've made this point before on here:

There are democrats on this board who think the democrat plan is: pull out of iraq (ahem .. redeploy) immediately.

Other democrats on this board who think the democrat plan is: keep the troops in, set a timetable and complete mission.

Unfathomable, that people are prepared to vote for the exact same people; yet seem to expect totally different outcomes. Just shows the incoherentness of the opposition. Only commonality is BDS.

No spin, just the facts. We don't go to war over people raking in dough either.

What Lorien said is true...people whine, moan and complain with the US steps in and when they don't, whine moan and complain that they don't.

    Some people are just whiners.

"They gave me a hat," Mr. Kerry says. "I have the hat to this day," he declares, rising to pull it from his briefcase. "I have the hat." :D

Those "timetable" folks really annoy the hell out of me.

If there is anything more dangerous to the success of a mission than sharing your plans with your enemies, it is making a timetable that you will follow -- without consideration for enemy action.

Can you imagine Franklin Delano Roosevelt announcing in 1941 "We will only fight the Nazi's until 1944." What would that do to the Nazi's? It would hand them victory with a nice bow on it.

I just cannot fathom how any living human being could be that ridiculously stupid.

However, progress is continuing in the direction that everyone wants to go.

In September, Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki accepted operational control of the Iraqi ground forces command structure and the country's air forces and navy. In addition, he also took control of the Iraqi 8th Army Division.

It is Maliki's decision how quickly to take over more divisions. He is expected to assume control of about two divisions a month.

The chain of command now runs from Maliki, through the minister of defense and the joint force headquarters, to the Iraqi ground forces command headquarters, down to the division and the individual soldier.

Throughout Iraq, coalition forces are transferring operational control to Iraqis as the security environment and their capabilities improve. Currently, six of ten Iraqi army divisions are in the lead in their areas of operations, and underneath the divisions are 26 brigades and 88 battalions in the lead.

We will reduce forces in Iraq when the Iraqi government is capable of defending itself, and not before. We will not allow another Vietnam, where the forces of repression were allowed victory because we as a nation got bored and wandered off from our committment to freedom.

    Yeah that is so true.

Can you explain how sending 40 men after OBL when 800 were requested was not telling the enemy the plan?

I bet that gave great comfort to OBL expecially when Bush said he was not even concerned with OBL!

OBL is a symptom of a cultural problem. I will dance the happy dance when he is dead, just as I did with his counterpart in Iraq, but he is just one Islamist out of hundreds of thousands.

If the Nazi's had killed FDR, would that have won the war for them? No, it would not have. When we kill OBL, will that win (end) the war for us? No, it will not.

This is a massively decentralized conflict. OBL is just one of the many people who need to be laid down for dirt naps before we will be at peace.

In today's context that makes for great writing. At the time, he was the pinicle of the issue and we had the resources.

It was poor judgement and it meant something. Something that was a slap in the face to the troops still there in Iraq and Afgan.

I have spoken to those troops, and they don't seem to feel the way that you do.

We have the resources to chase OBL, but that is not what militaries are good at. Any modern military is good at fighting big things, but that does not give them any special capabilities at fighting small things.

We could put a million troops in Afghanistan and still fail to find something as small as one Arab.

Osama wanted us to waste our time and resources chasing him, and we declined to play his game.
