Another rep abuse thread, I know...

I've been red repped by someone with a nice comment ( even if I had to use google define: to understand it fully ) here is the screenshot :



The point is that the signature is a fake.

I've asked devin to know if it came from him, and of course not. (actually he pointed out to me that with his number of green, it's would have been a red an not a grey one).

I don't mind the insult and the threat, I mean, there is things more important to be upset of, but what I don't like is someone coward enough to use someone else name. He don't have to sign, but if he does, he should use is own name.

So a question to the mods : Isn't it "rep abuse" and is there anything to do about it ?

Hmm,this thread reminds me something...

I believe it's called rep abuse and I bet it's not from devin.As you can see it's a grey one and the thread is in the "Suggestions & Feedback" section,if it was from devin,you would get either a red one or a green one.

 

Yes, that's what he told me, and this is why I opened a thread.

If the rep has been anonymous, I would have just forgot about it. But using another member name to send this kind of comment... well, I don't like it much.

You got a gray because when you have a lot of rep like you do, noobs can't affect you either way, they don't have enough rep power,

Even if he tried to rep you green it would show up gray cause you have so much rep.

Anyway, to sign with other people name is a bad habit. And now, I think we all know from who it come from.

 

It is rep abuse and ONLY Shawn can see who gave that. Please let us know as well and we'll give some red.

 

Something like this happened a while back. The rep abuser got banned, I think. So whoever it is is most likely on the way out the door.

The rep threads are a pita, but in this case you are right to bring it out in the open. Quite possibly the rep abuser is doing the same to others using different members names and stirring up a lot of bad feeling.

I have had a few red reps for no reasons but we all get it and so if we have more green then it evens it out

 

That was I thought, I guess it's not always so obvious, or not so easy to find out who really did it, which can lead to some misunderstanding between members.

I wasn't reporting the bad comment, I was reporting the name abuse.

 

i had the same, red rep signed by Bender and i knew it wasnt him that did it because of the amount of points, but i sent Bender a pm just so he was aware that someone is giving out red reps in his name, we had a little chat about, but trying to work out who it is would be hard.
the thing is that we both knew he never sent it. i just think it is so wrong, either sign it or dont, do not be so dishonest to yourself and others and try to get other people to red rep members they know, and cause a rep war.

i think thats the real dishonest part.
the thing is that Bender is a nice guy and i found it hard to believe that he would red rep someone for the post that was red rep'ed

 

Well its either a flaw of Vb ... or the creator of this rep Mod did it knowingly ... like creating controversy... The name of the user giving the rep should be shown as a transparency of the system....

Anyhow rep system helps cleaning out the spammers.

That thread does seem a bit odd...like maybe it was a member who was just banned. I know he said that he had been lurking for a while and just decided to join.

I've noticed lots of banned members recently in the b/s/t threads. Could be one of those people.

Is this how it always is here? New members being banned daily for duplicate accounts or is this something new?

I guess I'm just starting to notice since I've only been here for a few months.
