I really wish that it did not have to come down to this but another digital point designer did not come through has promised with a PHPLD template. His name is ' Etherfast ' he showed me a .psd of what he was going to do, I paid him a down payment and have not seen any work since. Email communication has stopped. Has anyone else had experiences with him?

I have no experience with this person. I am sorry to hear about this. This situation is really getting out of control. I think it is sad that people are getting ripped off like this. I personally, will only deal with professional (real) design companies from now on with the exception of one or two people that I can trust on here.

The saddest part about all of this is that many of these people are extremely talented and there is TON of money to be made and lots of people willing to pay for someone trustworthy and reliable. (Not saying this person isn't, just can't believe how many threads like this are popping up. :) )

Have heard his name for the first time

Don't you check member Itrader and reputation etc. before making a deal? or atleast previous work of him?

It is your duty to see all this before making a deal!

No kidding! I understand why designers and programmers would want a down payment on work to insure they don't get screwed. But it becomes increasingly difficult to hire someone to do a job after hearing all these horror stories of people receiving the money and dropping off the face of the earth.

I agree with you malcolm, there have been way too many threads regarding undelivered work, I hope these kind of things will be dealt with in the future.

It's gone way past the line, we should put a stop on this asap.

Well if my opinion counts , you should not get that much intense about it , coz you know people have emergencies , isp difficulties??? he might be ill , or if he is you , he may be grounded and his parents might have locked his pc.

SOME TIMES ITS GOOD TO LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE NOT FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS BUT FOR YOUR OWN SAKE.

    i hope you understand.
    Regards,
    Ace.

When you do biz one thing you need to have is patience and trust. Seems like "Etherfest" last visited forum on 13th, may be he/she has some personal problems, which has held 'em back... Giving 'em some more time is what I personally advice, then you can go ahead and open a refund request.

    Just my two cents..

    All Success,

If guy is only one day late, maybe you started panicking too early.
If someone wants to deliver a quality work, many things that needs to be solved may come up unexpectedly(some code doesn't work or something), so being one day late is nothing.
Also, maybe the guy just wasn't at home and had to do something so he didn't respond.
Give him some time before you flag him as QBC in public.

Update: Some more similar opinions while I was typing my post.

I poked around and seem that he is a trusted member. So don't push the panic button just yet. Give the dude some time.

I totally trust Etherfast. Hes done 3 templates for me and I had no issues. He does take a day or 2 to respond sometimes but nothing major.

    He did the templates for

    www.statiksound.com
    www.firecontrolman.com
    www.aaronnimocks.com

These were all done in about a week 1/2 each. I would really just give him some time because I dont think he would do this.

So a good call and nice rating for him..

So the best would be to wait for at least a couple of days for him to respond :)

Actually I think that is part of the problem, the people who keep complaining about getting scammed should be a bit wiser with your money.

I have worked for a few people from the forum and I rarely ask them for a down payment (In some cases it has been offered and I have taken it, but I did not ask). I do a quick bit of research on them and if I find them to be trustworthy then I go ahead with the work and get payment upon completion. I work a lot with malcolm1 and we have built up a good trust relationship between each other, he knows I will deliver the work even if I am sometimes a little late and I know that I will get paid even if he needs a few days to transfer money around.

I also hire freelancers on a regular basis for various tasks ranging from graphic design, basic coding that I don't have time for, etc. Not one of them ever gets paid before the work is delivered.

Anyway, my point is, if your hiring a designer who has trust issues and wants a down payment don't give it to him/her. Instead create a proper payment schedule where you both get something from the deal at regular intervals... e.g.

    PSD Design - 25%
    1st Draft Coding - 25%
    Final Coding - 50%

    Just my tuppence worth ;)
