Hello, My name is Perry. I am here to find out as much information as possible to help build up a forum I own. I am interested on improving my homepage that links to my forum. How not only to build membership but get members who post. I want my site to look professional, have great informative content, and learn how to keep the people out who sign up only to advertise how to save money on Viagra and stuff like that. My forum is about vacationing on a budget not how to increase the size of my well you know. So any information I can get here I will use to better myself. Thank you, Perry Fletcher
Hi! You can advertise your forum in your signature (or other peoples, if you pay them ) and get advice and tips from everybody here.. almost everybody I've met here is kind and helpful LOL. I saw a similar thread the other day, like I said just ask and people will give you anti-spam tips.
Well thank you MrHarper. I plan on adding my signature. I do everywhere else and plan on here as soon as I am allowed. I do not like to come here to advertise only. I really do need info. I also need to find those anti spam threads. These people drive me nuts. I think to myself hey I have a poster her then look at there post and wonder what kind of virus will this give me if I click on it.
Well I'm not an anti-spam expert but I'll give you some tips, if you haven't already tried this: 1) After email validation, require that you (the admin) has to activate all members manually. Before you activate them look for suspicious IPs and emails and names, etc. 2) Depending on what forum software you are using, there are various anti-spam controls you can use.. take a look in settings and fiddle around with them. 3) Once you delete spam, ban the member and also ban their IP.. perhaps do a IP range ban. Always delete spam as quickly as possible. 4) Be careful where you advertise your forum. This is all I can suggest but I'm sure others will have better ideas
Yes I will have to do something but it is kind of a catch 22 for me since my forum is new. I have not been banning them yet because I need the membership and I do not want to require post to be validated because I want people to be able to post with ease. But once I am big and have a lot of members and content I will require some validation before posting but until the I really can not afford it I do not think.
Welcome Perry, I'm also new, well semi new I signed up ages ago, I use to read this forum 24/7!! was so useful when I started. I'm hopeing i can contribute to this forum in the future and hope to gain some more contacts. I recommend the forum "1 + 3=" question anti-spam forum protection. I've used in on my forums and users can actually still register not like some of the crazy captcha's nowdays. Shane
