Hello, I have been posting on my new blog with long, unique articles. I have been trying to post daily, but have slowed down a bit. I hear Google loves fresh, unique content, but I can't seem to even rank Number 1 for my domain keyword! I was wondering how do I increase my SERP (search engine ranking position). I have submitted links to Digg, and have lots of backlinks from DP also. I also have an article in Ezinearticle. Am I along the right lines, and do the things I'm doing have a big impact on PR and SERP? Any advice would be great. JB
you need relevant content links , bad links are " known " paid link sources and links from blacklisted sites.
As others have said, you need backlinks... preferably from sites that are about topics similar or relevant to yours... preferably one way links from their site to yours without requiring you to reciprocate by linking back to them... preferably with anchor text or link text that matches the keyword(s) / keyword phrase(s) being targeted by the page on your site that they are linking to. Avoid link exchanges, reciprocal linking, paid links as ways of getting inbound links to your site. They violate Google's Webmaster Guidelines and if caught participating in such linking schemes you can be penalized or banned. Generally other sites linking to you can't hurt you, they just might not help you. The exception is if you are caught red handed buying links (or participating in some other link scheme) then you could be penalized, but generally Google just penalizes the seller's URL. You are penalized indirectly because you continue to pay for the link yet you are getting no benefit. But even this is very difficult for Google to prove unless you are caught bragging about it in their forums or posting offers to exchange links or participate in link exchanges on your site. If Google tried to penalize your URL for inbound links then your competitors could get you penalized by buying a few links to point to your URL and reporting you, so they typically will just devalue any inbound "bad" links they are aware of... Linking out to bad sites however can definitely get you penalized.
Yep I also agree that you'll need lots more quality backlinks. Check out how many links your competitors have. You basically need a better link profile to outrank them. Your website is very new. So don't expect good rankings anytime soon. Getting good rankings can take months or even years for competitive keywords.
