funny - the link command shows 139 links and webmaster central says 43,000 - so the link command is absolutely useless
When people talk about backlink updates, they are referring to updates to what G displays when you do a link: command. GWT has always been a more up to date value, it's nothing special when that updates. It can happen more than one time per week even. Really, there's no need to start a thread over that. -Michael
I never saw it happen more than one time a week. Maybe you should write a sticky to list all the topics peoples are allowed to talk about according to you.
How closely do you watch it? Something bugging you Monty? Anything you need to get off your chest? You seem a little tense. -Michael
To answer your questions, I watch it quite closely. The last update was in June, the 15th. The previous one I remember was in april (But I may have missed some) According to Vanessa Fox, links are updated on a monthly basis (third comment) According to Rustybrick who, I'm sure, watch it more closely than I do, there was updates in June, April, March and the 1st in February with the launch of this tool. And nothing is bugging me mvandemar, I just think you're 1st statement is wrong and the 2nd stupid, and I said so. Anything wrong with that ? (and you may be right about how tense I am)
Well, as to the first statement, it is very possible I am wrong... I was basing it on my recollection, which is subject to error. I was basing my second statement on the first, and had it been right, then a) It would not have been a stupid statement, and b) your snide comment, which was nothing more than a lame attempt to sound clever, was based around you thinking you had more of a right to form an opinion than I do, which is inherently wrong. So, yeah, there is something wrong with that. -Michael
For what it's worth I've noticed a couple changes in the thumbnails provided in the Google searches. I've had a site for about 10 years but had no idea about PR until a few months ago. Now I'm waiting in anticipation for the next update! Also since finding out about PR I decided to try getting into more free directories. I made it into a couple but I guess they must use the nofollow code as Google doesn't show them. Rats!
Well, I'm not going to start a rhetorical exchange with you (I had to look up the definition for 'snide'), but what I meant is : you could be wrong, everybody can be wrong sometimes, but what I didn't appreciated much was the "there's no need to start a thread over that" definitive statement. As far as I know, peoples are still free to start thread here on DP. It would have been another "PR update" thread, I wouldn't have noticed, but this one seems to me quite more interesting than many useless threads. Some peoples on the 1st page have thanked the OP to let them know about this update, this is why I reacted at you're coming in just to say : 1st : something wrong 2nd : something out of place (imho) I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, but actually if I had knew the word "snide" or thought about the "lame" one, I might have used them to describe your first post in this thread. @jan2007: if you're referring to Google images, I think you're right, I noticed an update since yesterday in Google images results.
external links up to 60k but my internal links have dropped dramatically and now scratching my newly shaved head.
Google has DEFINITELY updated their links -- I went from a 200 to a 1020 and a 2,000 to 5,000 on my one other site -- The first site's terribly new and that's from a month of work -- I need to really begin rolling this out though. It's nothing like the rest of you guys but that's cool, I've been too busy being obsessed with SEM and SEO =o). Nice post on the newest update, the google link updater is awesome, it makes you feel gooood.
And I'm not going to get into it with someone who won't admit what they did. You didn't hurt my feelings, but you were deliberately rude, and it was, imo, out of place. When I posted what I did, it was me stating what I felt about the topic, not an attack on the poster. I know you only posted what you did because you felt you were defending someone, but honestly, there was no need to. Btw, just so you know, I don't think RB watches the updates at all... I think he relies on forum activity to let him know when things change (at least it seems that way from how he cites his sources). -Michael
