Found these stats in the businessweek article regarding the wiki search engine. businessweek.com/technology. There's a thread on DP about the new wiki search over here Its common knowledge but here's some stats on how much the big G controls the search market. FROM BUSINESS WEEK; Google has proven to be a fearsome competitor, however, against some of the most powerful companies in technology. In recent years, Google has increased its lead in search over Yahoo! (YHOO) and Microsoft's (MSFT) MSN, despite vows from both companies to catch up. Google controlled 49.5% of the searches in December, up from 43% two years earlier, according to Nielsen//NetRatings (NTRT). Meanwhile, Yahoo has 24.3% of searches and MSN, the third highest ranking search engine, controls just 8.2% of searches. Microsoft's share of the search market has slipped from 14% two years ago, despite a technology revamp and a multimillion-dollar ad campaign. If the searches that Google performs for Time Warner's (TWX) AOL and News Corp.'s (NWS) MySpace are added to the equation, its lead is even greater.
Thank for news. Oh..google still has less 50%, I was over estimated and thinking it was more that 75%.
thanks for the info. i thought that google would also control >70% of the share. this can possibly be contributed to internet explorer defaulting to an msn search on a 404? im using my parents laptop at the moment and that keeps happening. I have a hunch that G is going to come off worse in 2007 though
