    Hi

I am trying to install software that is calling home to verify. My firewall says something like"…attempting to connect to a dns server.." I checked and notice that my IP address will be visible. Is there a way to disguise my IP using a proxy? If so, how can I do this?

    Thanks

Theres torrify ( i think thats the name ) it's a modded version of firefox which basically acts as a proxy, I may be wrong on the name but it's something similar to that if not.

I am a little familiar with tor but im not sure how to use it to ensure that my ip is not seen when this software dials home. Can you explain how to do this?

If memory serves me correctly you need to find a proxy ip to use and set them in the settings, unless the newest version has it's own built in now. You'd need to find one which is legal to use as a proxy, as i think there are ones which are less legal. Don't quote me though lol.

There's always a good old fashioned anon proxy you can use - i recommend www.hidemyass.com

I am in fact using a proxy and I know it works because when I check my IP via ip checking sites it display the proxy address. However, the proxy is not used when it is dialling to the software's server. Is there a way I can force it to use the proxy?

Do you mean you actually want to get your pc to use a proxy ip when it connects to the internet? instead of your isp IP?

I want my pc to connect to the server in question using a proxy rather than my real ip.
