Well said. A lot of people come here to cause problems, get backlinks, spam etc. etc. and that creates a danger for old timers to go overboard saying "not another one, let's teach him a lesson" when in reality some ppl are just insecure entering a whole new community. I myself have the problem on my own forum when for example clients who have never chatted online, start participating and come off awkward. I make sure moderators know that you cannot judge the personality or intentions of a new member thru 3 posts (except it is someone like Acoona ). I like the "no signature before 10 posts" rule or in my case "free real estate blog after 15 posts" so we can kind of get an idea if the new member is serious about participating in the forum or just wants a couple of backlinks and run.
Let me get this straight, tute... If I make 15 posts at your forum, I get free real estate? where do I sign up?
I still think that even though I was a bit taken aback, and I was, soft touch red rep, I did not get that until after 150 posts. Imagine your new, <green> as it were and you asked a question that to all others was nothing short of absolute stupidity, ie "what happens if I click my own ads" I guess your in for Rep, come on, in all our fields we may be knowledgable, in this field we vary but we all learn from each other and to piss on new questions we have all either "asked" or "searched" is just wrong. I know after getting the same questions it is easy for "some" people to go for blood and use the "did you google!!!" "Ever heard of search!!!!!!!!!!" but if people feel this forum gives answers that they trust, why would they google? why trust google if someone here could answer it? and they "may" believe it more? Is that a basis for ridicule? Do you believe everything in the paper? NO? So when they come here questioning the sandbox,PR weight, ALT tags, Meta Tags and ask questions, if you read the paper that day - I guess they have just as much right to ask - do Meta Tags matter, no matter what you opinion - just give it honestly but do not take the piss of others.
I heard that Google penalizes you if you click on threads with "PR" in the title. I can't swear that it's true, of course, but I'm pretty sure dannywall (see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=14591) has an article about this somewhere.
WRONG AGAIN!!!! It only applies if you don't hold you b@llz right when you do so! Watch out for my new 10-page seochat article coming soon And don't ask for proof, I have given it to seochat and you guys are not worthy of knowing my "secrets"
Just be ready to back me up when someone attacks me in my thread and pretend you have seen the proof and accuse them of not holding their privates the way only me and a select few know how to. And if they attack you, just red rep and talk about their mammas. It works
Well... I don't know if you have the depth on the bench for the kind of backup j-low got in his thread, but I think I can persuade the rest of the Coop Rep Network to come on board... it will probably depend on what kind of a mood Anthony is in tonight...
hehe ... worth a try, anyone who disagrees will get their signature taken and have their mammas dissed online - buy AC another drink and he'll be ready
Getting a bad rep is easy as 123 1) Tick off one person with a comment or opinion that they disagree with. 2) Confront a member about his post. 3) Post a comment or suggestion that (some people feel they are to high on the tech chain to even read. Like all other forums its just part of the game you play! A negative rep is just part of the world. Martha Luther king would get negative reps all the time! Heck even the messiah himself got a negative rep because of what he said, keep typing and asking questions and posting comments. I’m at a 3 (im hoping its like golf and the lower the score the better.)
btw me and Minstrel are kidding based on another thread we have been in which was serious . .. just fyi!
Hi - thank you all for the kind comments. Believe it or not I got two more neg reps for this post!! However, that was more than outweighed by all the generous pos rep received - Thanks!! Anyway, my point was not to whinge or scream or get it removed or help myself in any way, emerely to point out that it is a ridiculous system which seems pretty much pointless - whether my rep is good or bad doesnt bother me in the slightest, I have a clear conscience, and thats all that matters to me. As far as getting my signature active.....what? I have a very succesful site which doesn't need the extra boost. Whilst extra freeby links are always good, I dont think many people on here are posting purely to get the link popularity from the signature - if you are, you are probably in the same category as the neg raters.... Anyway, thank you again for the replies, and for the ratings. Dont worry, I have no intentions of going away, I like this forum and am looking forward to posting what will hopefully be helpful posts for other members, as well as getting good advice and pointers from the existing posts. Happy happy happy! "Ne illegitimi carborundum" for those who are clasically educated. (or want to bother doing a google to find out what im going on about)
