How do I register a domain name anonymously? I know that some registrars offer private registration which serves to protect your personal data from being published on the Whois directory, but how does that exactly work? The ones I have checked say that they need to register another domain name on my behalf and charge me for it; but who is to say how much that is going to cost since they are in total charge of this process? Also how much information can you keep from your registrar and still get your domain name? To summarize: I need advice on registering a domain name and running a website with as little exposition as possible. Best regards and thanks in advance
Just about all registrars offer private registration. And yes, you usually do have to pay for it. You should just be able to select your domain name and add private registration. This will block all whois data.
Some registrars do offer a free whois protection for a new registered/transfer domain names. Because you're registering the domain names with them, registrar do have all your information. But with the use of whois protection, your real information is block from the outside world from being accessed. - Dynashox -
