It depends upon the directory owner

A directory owner(www.jeffbrowninc.com PR4) like me cannot make the listing fees as annual as

    a) My directory is a small one and it does not sends any traffic to the websites listed in it
    b) The listing are mainly for PR
    c) I may lose some probable siteowners who may be interested in listing their site in my directory

    where as

a directory like Aviva can charge annual listings because of these reasons

a)High and increasing PR by every PR update
    b)Because of Traffic

I would say that directories which are above PR6 and which sends some traffic to the sites can afford to charge annual fee for the listings whereas other directories can't

joke: Directories are mushrooming because of PR only once the Google goes all would go except a few which would send some traffic to the sites

I strongly feel the directories which do not send some traffic to the sites are not worth .I am running and marketing directories as the situation demands me to do so!

This dunce has received a decent number of visitors and an excellent ROI from just such a listing.

PR is a poor metric when trying to determine value; Aviva gives me the opportunity to reach a segment of my target market cost effectively. The same quantity of visitors from an advertising campaign such as AdWords could cost me approximately $75 with a much poorer conversion rate.

Taking offense to a comment is understandable, but to insult your prospective clients by suggesting that we're not the brightest customers is just not good business sense. But then again, I'm just a dunce with an opinion. ;)

Ask the people that actually do submit whether or not they feel it's worth it for the year.

Don't call someone else a sucker because you're poor and have no money to promote. That's plain idiocy to say the least.

I have got 75 websites and growing.....think of the financial cost of that would be.....poor? no, smart, YES You and the likes of you are just in it to sucker people;) by giving them names like Quick Buck Crew and pressuring them so that they will submit to places like dump.

Currently, www.trincas.org has a better value than dump and for a lot less money...I should make a list of Valued directories versus an over-priced directories.

    Pure Marketing;)

I think trincas is a great directory, alive, aviva, ewebpages, dirsensei, romow, gii and many others are as well. How you determine value is on you.

I think I will join CReed and put on my Dunce Cap

    hahaha

well i dont know as far as whether you want to go ahead and say that all directories which offer permenant listings are QBC. Because if i remember correctly, Aviva itself was permenant listings till like 4 months ago ???

i dont mind everybody picking either side they want to choose from, but if you like to pick a side than pick it and go along with your sites... why throwing stones in other's way ?

    I mean i offer permenant listings ... so i m a QBC ??

just like my last comment: live and let live people ...

its free will, how about we let each other race the way they want to race and meet at the finish line ?

Jeff i like it how you took time and effort to write a post, but i still did not like the part that you calling every permenant listing dir a QBC

i fully agree with u smub.... a thread of reason amidst many emotional ones ;)

but coming back to my previous post, i hope someone can support your argument that as directories increase in size, costs will necessarily go up (assuming same marketing effort of course).

I will make one exception of Alive, as I regard ALive Web Directory to be a strong force and I can't wait to see it as PR8......

    Edit: Also www.bigweblinks.com:)

I think both are well and good..

A yearly fee of $20 is good ... While $60 permanent fee is also good (unless and untill that permanent link lasts 3xyear)

So the idea is how long the permanent link is going to live..
For a yearly fee - you are definitely sure that your listing will (& should be) survive atleast 1 year..
But we cannot predict this for a permanent link.

Look, I can almost agree on a yearly fees, this depend on many things.

    www.trincas.org $10.95 and a lifetime:D

    vs.

    www.avivadirectory.com $49.95....yearly:mad:

    I believe trincas.org is a wiser choice:cool:

    I like it :)

    Its much better to get a $20 - $50 / year PR4/PR5 category(directory) link than a non-directory link which cost around $10-$15/month for same PR4/5 link ( >120$/year. )
