   OK I can live with being spammed in a PM (no problem) and I can live with the spam email that results (no problem at all) but the annoying DP popup telling me what I already know is sending me on my way to Webmaster World.

   Then disable the popups in your usercp. Until the database issues are sorted out, that's the only workaround.
