Announcements Forum for webmaster's soliciting submissions?

I was just wondering if there's some way (or worth) in adding a forum where webmasters can announce new sites, ideas, etc, without looking for a review. There are a few contenders in the business forum, but none of them quite fit the sort of non-business ventures I'm thinking about.

For instance - I want to let webmasters here know I'm now actively seeking nominations for my www.thenextbigwebthing.com site - its not a link exchange or sale, its not a review, etc. But doesn't seem to fit into the more general threads as well.

Would it be a good idea to have a general announcements forum? Or will it get spammed? Or, should I just shoehorn announcements that may be of interest to other webmasters here into more general threads?

The way I would do it is to propose where this subforum would go and the exact wording it would use.

The things you mentioned are all slightly different (.ie an idea would go in the business section, while a site would likely go in the review (or solicitation if it was a directory)

Usually there has to be a lot of these posts before Shawn will add a new subforum so I say in your example to put it in Business. Maybe keep track of similar threads to show there is a need.

    Just my .02

Yeah - I'm not quite sure they're one forum. I'm sort of thinking out loud. It might be the Website Reviews forum is renamed - Member's Sites and split into three sub forums.

    1. Website Reviews
    2. Webmaster's Announcements
    3. Webmaster's News

Of the top of my head. Your .02 is well appreciated - that's double my average cpc... :)

Personally I think a Sub Forum of the Website Review is a pretty good idea. With as many webmasters as there are here these days there are a ton of cool sites launched every day.

If someone wants to chime in with a subforum name and description, feel free (Although again, historically there has to be a present need there)

I think a place to put a sort of mini press release to publicise new sites/tools/features would be good.
If people give replies to the threads it could work a bit like digg with the most interesting items staying on top.

Maybe you could only post here if you had 50 posts to prevent spamming?

There would definately be a post count requirement as I could see it being a Spam magnet.

I do have to say that Shawn has done well to control this stuff up to now with a huge example being the Solicitations subforum for Directories. Rather then a strong handed approach (similar to the nearly defunct SEOChat), you divide it.

A section like this would be a good place to go if you had a spare half hour and just wanted to see what projects fellow dp'ers were working on.

At present nobody really knows where to put them and there is no specific place to look for them either.

My un-imaginative suggestion would be to call it "Publicise your site".
