It is a great script you've got there! I think the other posters are right in saying that you need to extract the URL of the site they came from and post that next to it. That way you're giving them the credit for their images. My site is similar, but not as sophisticated. Users post a URL then a thumbnail is created (as a hotlink so the bandwidth leeching issue still exists...) but I extract the URL and post that under it. No Google involvement. I wouldn't want to mess with them Cheers, p.
That's even worse, you are generating thumbnails but consume the bandwidth for the whole picture. Argh
Hi mikkom, The idea is that the website owners post the URL's themselves so they know what the cost is for them. I've clearly explained this on the About page and if anyone complains about a post from their site I'd remove it immediately. Cheers, pondlife.
You would do well to heed the warning. I'm guessing it was probably a photographer who got in touch and was mightily miffed you were using his images without permission, not to mention sucking up all his bandwidth. If you're lucky he will accept you removing the images but your general model is based on stealing bandwidth from everyone else so it won't be very long before someone else decides to nail you. It's quite possible he will hit you with DMCA on as many search engines as possible since he seems to know his way around the internet well enough to find your phone number. That would get your site delisted from every SE. Then there's the monetary value. If he sues, and he might, you would be liable for a chunk of cash. You need to rethink your approach with this website. It's a cat-in-a-bag.
So why are you bothering with the site at all? You're not adding content and not making money so what's the point? [Sorry if that sounds harsh]
well, a 2 second look at your website and it is clear that you are in fact promoting that you condone people ripping others off. Just look at your page title - it is "goorip - Google Image Ripper" This title also implies that you are endorsing everyone ripping any image they can find via your site. I hope you come to your senses and do the right thing and fast!
Thank you for your advise everyone. This script will be shutdown and Goorip will be changed to a legitimate project.
