This is the greatest thing for the Yankees. They needed good pitching.

Yes, the Yankees pitching staff has been abysmal the past few years. Still, $16 million for Pettite? Gimme a break!

The Yankee's have the cash and unlike Kevin Brown who had lost velocity when he came to the Yanks, Andy Pettitte has never really relied on the fastball which is still in the high 80’s to low 90’s and he’s only 34 years of age. A crafty pitcher with a proven track record in New York who can consistently give you 200 plus innings each year is a very rare thing these days and the market has been set pretty high with the recent signing of Ted Lilly.

This was one of Steinbrenner’s best signings in the past two years. BTW, this wasn’t a trade but rather a free agent signing, so they didn’t have to tap their minor league well again as they have so often over the past few disappointing seasons.

P.S. Im a Tiger's fan, so I hated this signing.

    Best wishes,
    Kimmy

The age kind of surprised me. I wonder what the average age of their starters is...

Well, actually he was signed not traded..but Pettite is a good player.

Wang's pretty young anyway, don't know why though but the Yankees just aren't dominating as they used to in the late '90s.

They gotta get A-Rod into gear

Its their pitching, which just plain stinks. In the 1990s, their pitching staff was younger and stronger, while the current staff is elderly and moribund. Okay, a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but you need capable, young pitchers to take it all the way.
