I think they are part of a scam ring.. I often get mails about renewing a particular domain.. If I click the link I get sent to some obscure registrar wanting prices in the range of these people.. Even though they have nothing to do with the domain..
That is disgusting, they deserve to be destroyed. Innocent businesses setting up who want a site but don't know any better will get ripped off, although I spoke to one person who thought the going rate to install a forum was £1,000, a job which would take no longer than 2 hours if everything that could go wrong went wrong.
It has to be a setup issue where the prices are not adjusted, its just the way the script came would be my guess since prices don't vary between different domain names.
