I have traditionally used anchored text to emphasis keywords within a site, but i was wondering whether its an out dated technique and whether when you anchor text the destination is important?
Obviously the destination page is important and you should also optimize the landing page effectively that could help users to find the information what they're looking for.
yes it is extremely important on the landing page. i still use anchor text, and it seems to work extremely well. Your landing page has to be relevant to the anchor text, otherwise its a total waste of time creating the anchor text.
using anchor text might be traditional but it is still used by all SEO... Landing pages matters the most, having correct landing page gives a good traffic for your site...
I don't think it will be outdated. Anchor text is really a powerful strategy in terms of keyword rankings.
Absolutely it is STILL IMPORTANT and works. Interlinking between pages of your website is an important part of your SEO strategy. Along the same thought, it is not necessarily a "must" that incoming anchor text links from other sites go to your index page. In fact IMO it is just as important if not more for inbound links to hit important pages deep within your site. What do you think.........eric
Using anchor text in conjunction with your internal link structure is import when looking at on page seo factors. It is still used to this day, it is not outdated. Just keep in mind if your anchor text reads "baseball playoffs", but the site it links to is talking about sports drinks, that anchor text is irrelevant to the page you have it pointed to. Use anchor text that describes the type of content you are linking to. As for backlinks, I feel it is better to have backlinks pointing to different pages of your site, even deep directories help better then pointing everything to just your main page. I could be wrong, so do not quote me on that one.
