Anchor Texts?

This is something that confuses me.

Say I have a site with 10,000 quality links all with the anchor text 'window cleaning' and my site is about windows, obviously it will rank well for window cleaning. Say I want it to rank for windows. I'd need some anchor text with 'windows' but does it come down to how many links i have with that anchor text that chooses how well it performs, or do i just need a few with that anchor text so google knows that its a notable keyword?

You need as many links with that anchor as possible.

When it come to keyword optimization it depends on the keywords competition. For example in this case for "window cleaning" there may be less competition. so it will rank easily. Since window is very common word you have to fight with hell lots of websites to rank first. It is possib;e but you have to work hard and built more quality links on that keyword. Hope it helps you.

Well a different example, say you want to rank for window cleaning and you had most of your anchor text as 'cheapest window cleaning' would google see the keywords as being similar enough to make the site rank for both?

There are a couple of factors which this comes down to, the main ones being your competitions link building and how many links they have as well as where those links are from. Secondly your own on page optimisation. You need to make sure every part of your website internally is better than your competitions.

My main page is very well optimised for this key I'm after so I think that it will rank for this particularl key as most of my anchor texts are similar enough for google to do the math. Time will tell tho.

Like I say tho what interests me if say i want to rank for window cleaning and have most of my anchor text as 'cheapest window cleaning' would google see the keywords as being similar enough to make the site rank for both?

I would start building links with the anchor text 'window cleaning' then as you get some weight for that term I believe you will start to gain some benefit from 'cheapest window cleaning' as well. Since the entire term is included in both you should get some cross-over.

You need to vary the anchor texts to include:

    cheapest window cleaning
    best window cleaning
    window cleaning
    window cleaning supplies

Why not write an article 5 Top Window Cleaning tips...this will rank well.

If you can find a high PR site that is related to window cleaning you can try and get a link from them, either by blogg commenting or just ask if they willput your link on their site - it works for me, I have got 4 x PR4 links this way.

I think too broad of a search phrase such as "windows" would bring you totally untargeted traffic which would just leave your site anyway because it's not what they're searching for. Windows operating system, window sales, how are windows made, window cleaning, etc.

Ranking well for your specific niche, such as "window cleaning" may bring you less traffic, but it will be MUCH more targeted resulting in a much higher CTR.
