Does incorrect or Anchor Text hurt you? Not Hurt? Improve your link PR in anyway? I'm considering not being so aggressive with Anchor Text when trying to build back links. I'm willing to do double the work to not be. I'm only wondering if anchor text like my name, will hurt my rating, or cause no improvement at all. Any input would be gladly accepted. Anchor Text plays the role of board which is hanging outside your shop... if that board is indicating towards Shoe shop and the shop basically is a garment shop.. then it may hurt you.. same way anchor text could be taken as your keywords by the search engine robots but if the user lands on your website with the same keyword and won't find it appropriate then they went back... So its upto u what u consider.. what should be you anchor text.
Some beleive anchor text is the most powerful seo tatic available. Make sure you have your keywords in your anchor text and be sure to mix you keywords up.
I do agree with "whitehatlinkbuilding" anchor texts are really important either on your website or directory/ any place from where u are getting back links.. so that SE can index that link for the keywords being covered in Anchor Text.
