I am a bit confused as to how anchor text relates to SERP ranking. Lets say I have a page about teaching a dog tricks. And lets say that none of the links going to that page use the anchor text "dog tricks" Lets just say that half of them used "dog training" and the other half used "dog information". Would that ONLY boost my site rank in those two keyphrases? Or would it also boost the rank in other related key words such as dog pictures, dog, dog food, dog kennels etc...
I would tend to think you wouldnt be getting the full SEO advantage for that page if you used 'dog information' and 'dog training' on a page based on 'dog tricks' - if you know what I mean
Ummm.....their is a secret which is open to all. lol The secret is keep focused on one or two keyword per page. So write content according to those 1 -2 keyword and built backlinks with those 1 - 2 keywords. keep you page concentrated for target pages. What you are saying make page dilute for your keywords. Also, you have to find out the switch between over optimization and under optimization. Right seo is needed.
Yea, I wouldnt do that. I meant if other people had links on their site to yours. If i had a page about dog tricks, but 60 other sites linked to that page using "dog training" as anchor text, would I most likely rank well for dog training, but not for "dog tricks" Would the page ONLY rank well for dog training if the only anchor text was dog training?
I would have to say yes to that. If this is what people are using to find you. Better off changing the keywords in anchor text to suit. SE's will find you a lot better that way IMO.
