    Hi all,

I have recently started a link campaign for the job website in my sig and have been using the anchor text "Job Centre Vacancies" as this is the title/url of the site.

My question is, will this anchor text help me rank for keywords such as "job centre" or "job centre plus" or is it just the exact anchor stated above that will improve in terms of rankings?

    Thanks

    peds

authority sites which have a pleura of backlinks can rank for many terms. You dont have to have the exact text in your anchor text to rank for certain terms.

However newer sites that dont have many backlinks generally need the exact text in there anchor text to rank for that term.

Unless of course its a long tail term which isn't competitive.

To rank for Job Centre though I would imagine you need some links with that exact phrase in it.

    Good luck!

Its a good idea to use a wide range of anchor text when building backlinks. This is so you can enjoy SERPs benefit for a wide range of search terms and to prevent triggering any link manipulation penalty in the google algo.

So, if ranking for Job Centre Plus is important to your site then you should use that as anchor text too.

    :)

It will help to get ranking for "job centre" because it is a subset of "job centre vacancies", but not so much for "job centre plus". As mistermix says, you should vary your anchor text from time to time, based on what you think people are actually searching for. You might need to consider alternate spellings of "center" and "centre".

Definitely for 'job centre'. You can also use alt text in your links for SEO.

yep its a uk thing :D

anyways i think it will give you a bit of help ranking for (e.g.) job centre plus because it does still contain job centre in it, however you should also get some anchor text with job centre plus in it if you wish to rank well for that keyword.

thanks very much for all those replies, it seems that I am thinking too narrowly when choosing my anchor text, I'll be sure to try a bit more variety in the coming months.

    Cheers

If you want to rank high using your keywords, just use your main keyword in your anchor text. Job centre is fine but use main keyword as your anchor text.

you can change your anchor text if you want...using "Job Centre Vacancies" as anchor text you might get rankings for target keywords "job centre" and "job centre plus" as "job centre" is included there but not much with "job centre plus"...change your anchor text once in a while using your other targeted keywords...it might help...check if the keyword that you'll choose will give you a lot of competition or not...analyze your competitors as it'll help you on doing SEO for your site...
