I haven't seen this in my readings here or elsewhere, so forgive me if it is. I was wondering how important it is to keep your anchor text narrow and to the point? Maybe this question is best articulated with an example. FICTIONAL SITE: SiteName: Pastry Heaven Site Desc: This site sell's you hot fresh pastries of all sorts. So, should anchor text to this site be: 1: Pastry Heaven - Hot Fresh Pastries 2: Pastries 3: Hot Fresh Pastries 4: Pastry Heaven I guess my point is the keyword 'pastries' anchor text by itself better then a more elaborate and is the #1 example too "long". Does that make a difference? IE, keyword stuffing or anything else that causes the anchor text to be less valuable? I am not sure I expressed my question clearly, but hope I did. Thanks in advance for your time and answers.
Only the keyword phrase, IE "pastries"? Would saying "Pastry Heaven - Hot Fresh Pastries" make it less useful/important then anchor text "Pastries" alone? I would think Google would have some intelligence to see a single word by itself outside of any grammatical context and say thats an SEO link if I ever saw one.. perhaps not? Thats why i ask!
I would do ALL of these to keep the G filter from devalueing your links because they all say the same thing. 1: Primary Keyphrase - 50% (Maybe more if you get the link imbedded in relevant text) 2: Primary Keyphrase with filler - 25% 3: Secondary Keyphrases - 15% 4: Secondary Keyphrases with filler - 10% Of course nothing is set in stone, but I use that as a sort of guideline
I would get links to interior pages rather than the homepage as well. Seems to be the best way to go.
I agree with Jayson's formula. I had a blog entry about Anchor text usage and optimization and I've given the same advice.
