I see the forum spammers who have dozens of links on the same page like

    [fake example]

    cake
    pizza
    tomatoes

and the list goes on and on

But, since they are posting the exact same post on thousands of forums, wouldn't it actually penalize them in the end?

Not really. Most forums have rel="nofollow" set on all links anyway. As for the ones that don't have it, they would be worthless anyway since they have no value (not to mention the fact that the search engines would notice it anyway and give them the boot for it).

if there is nofollow on the links , they will get nothink but yahoo and msn does not recognise the nofollow.

they are getting better rankings on yahoo and msn

This is a desperate move really.
Most of these messages are being either blocked or deleted 10 sec later :D

if forums get the nofollow link, why are people selling thier signatures? only for traffic I guess?

This act won't penalize the sites.. If this will, then our competitors will post our links all over the place.

If there are worthless, then why do the forum spammers do what they do? No one goes to the forums owned by spam.

Because most "spammers" are really just programs looking for unsecured sites to flood with links, not people.

They are NOT worthless. If they spam thousands of forums and the links remain there, they will get high rankings for these keywords.

Not likely. Most spam links are removed, and the ones that remain are oftne on pages that relate as much to the sites being linked to as apples are to holes in the ground.

depends on the way the forum is set up. some forums have nofollow on the posts but not signatures and vise versa

this forum does not use the "nofollow" tag. It can get your site indexed fast on the search engines.. and, I've actually done business with a few DP'ers here that I liked their link
