i was wondering about what affect anchor text has when creating blog comments. there is a section in this blog that i've been using which allows you to include your name and the url to your homepage. once you submit your comment, your name is turned into a link that directs the user to your homepage. now, as far as the SE's are concerned, they are continually seeing my "name" as the anchor text in my comment links from that website, and of course my name isn't relevant to the content on our site. also, if i'm repeatedly using my name as the anchor text, does that look spammy? i've thought about using our main keyphrase in the name field, but i just don't think that's very professional, and i may get flagged as a spammer by the blog itself.
it only look spammy if you spam your sites... if you have real contents in your comment then that should be fine.
Heh, try posting comments on blogs using targeted anchor text instead of your name. Many will delete the comments, some will ban the IP, and still others won't notice or care. IMHO, the dofollow blogs police this more than any other segment and will not take kindly to using their site in this way.
most of the blogs are using nofollow on their links. search engines will ignore links with nofollow. because of this , anchor txt on blog comments will not effect your seo
I considered this issue a few months ago as I'm an active commenter on quite a few dofollow blogs. In running a search for my name "Andy" under pages from Australia, my website came up ranked 6th in Google! Of course I receive a very insignificant amount of traffic from "Andy" searches! Hopefully it's not diluting the strength of my optimised anchor text...
Yeps ! you might get flagged by the webmaster for taking the advantage of do-follow but then again you can always try this as there are loads of blogs
It will looks spammy but you can give it a try. I'm sure they will accept your comments if they provide some valuable information.
Blog comments are worthless for SEO. Because blogging platforms put "no follow" to all urls of blog comments. So this prevents search engines to be index the urls.
But some of the blogs (WP) install dofollow in there comment for getting more responds to there blogs. The blogs with dofollow links are very effective in SEO/SERP.
Yes, there are tons of sites who have joined the dofollow movement. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find a list or two of them.
Don't post to blogs using anchor text. That is considered spam by most. Just use your first name or username. I delete any comment that uses anchor text, whether it is relevant or not.
Quote: trichnosis "most of the blogs are using nofollow on their links. search engines will ignore links with nofollow. because of this, anchor txt on blog comments will not effect your seo" I read recently that with the Google PageRanking system, no-follow links are included as a part of your overall search engine ranking for a specific keyword, because it represents a more well-rounded approach to an SEO campaign. Note: The title of this comment should read "SEO and 'No Follow' Links in Blog Comments"
True, and I definitely advise against the entry of a keyword in the name field for any blog comment. Not only is it highly likely that your comment will not be accepted, but it also serves to lower the reputation of the commentor and the website he or she represents, especially if the post is accepted.
